I can't believe nobody has said "Apocalypse Now" yet. One of the very best movies ever, so definitely one of the best war movies ever. Granted, it's not about heroism or glorification of warfare, so perhaps that's the reason it didn't come to mind.

Also, "The Eagle Has Landed" and "Battle of the River Plate".

I only went with what I felt was my fave, dopest war flick.

But if it was military action, even if it's way fictional, DOOM and ALIENS are top for me. AND maybe the upcoming PREDATORS will be cool too!

Great movies!


I can attest, this one is truly gritty. I think watching this should be a pre-requisite before deciding on heading to Afghanistan. That movie show the home court advantage is definitely in play. Cold war 80's well done.
