I don't think joes have had a decent new character since the original ARAH days (around 1990, but a few scattered in the years after, Heavy Duty was good as he was written back then for instance). I applaud hasbro for some efforts this year (Night adder, ect) but none of them stood out.
The JvC-VvV new characters all suffered from a lack of believablity and individualism. Hard Drive was there to replace Mainframe, Faces was there to replace chuckles ect. While updates are good, the line needed some freshness rather than the same character with a different name. Again Night adder at least had a specialty not used for cobra yet (Although with it he seemed a bit of a take off of croc master, the mask didn't help either).
Helix was vastly overpowered and as such was a joke of herself. The Big Brawler of the new milenium (Just a gothy chick is all).
The ARAH collector edition character not only suffered from fill in syndrome, they used old molds that were pretty identifable with thier orginals (Big Brawler-Outback, Roablock was almost paited the exactly same way and renamed Doublle Blast for no real apparent reason).
I think the last new character I felt anything besides laughter for was Bulletproof in 1993 (guessing I don't feel like checking joeindes or yo joe right now and I do tend to mix up 90-94 figures and release dates).
But on that same token I am SICK to death of seeing the same characters over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over to the point of nausium. Sanke Eyes is one of the main offenders (or offended depending on your POV). I intend to stay away from such characters unless they are something unique, even though I caved to the $5 sale for CS SE, I don't feel he falls into that catagory.
