Re: 1989 Night-Vipers (v1 - Both Variants)
Night-Viper was released in 1989, with business booming for Hasbro, many figures had molds built in 2 factories, in order to keep up with demand. He was made in China and Hong Kong. The one on the left was Made in Hong Kong, while the one on the right was Made in China, I don't see really any noticeable difference other than the plastic seems to be holding up slightly better on the China one.
Thanks for looking!

Re: 1989 Night-Vipers (v1 - Both Variants)
In 1990, I had my first real summer job bagging groceries. There was a Kohl's nearby and, one Thursday after getting paid in cash, I decided to take my 30 minute lunch to go there and see if they had any Joes. They had a full array of '88 and '89 figures. I decided to buy one and it was the Night Viper. I've NEVER regretted that decision. Great figure and a great look at them.

Re: 1989 Night-Vipers (v1 - Both Variants)
Great picture! And I love the back story.
In looking at the minutia of these figures, as we look toward them, does the one on the right have a belt buckle painted gold? The one on the left looks like his is just black? Or did it simply fade away with time and play?
I have only one, so I will check on mine and the factory location stamped on the file card/figure.
I had no idea about demand causing the factory variants. I thought China had annexed Hong Kong, and all its "capitalistic" factories around this time. Thank you for the info on this matter.

'19 & 89' I like that
Speaking of which, I've often wondered why I chose a T.A.R.G.A.T. over this guy back when... I think the answer is jet pack - I was a sucker for that folding-wing accessory, & couldn't see past it
