BLACKOUT : YAY or NAY!
Ok, I thought it over. Let's see what the posse here really thinks of the new characters. I am going to put in a lot of different aspects on the YAY or NAY side so while there may be positives, there will most likely be negatives too.
TARGET : BLACKOUT
Proper Cobra Sniper.
Good design.
Good Sculpt.
All new sculpt.
Horrible looking face (fault of design, not so much sculpt).
Goofy Eye paint.
Gorrilla arms.
He looks good in black, foo!
Funky Doodle goggles
2 rifles; 1 m16, 1 sniper rifle.
Guillie gear.
Close Quarters Pistol.
Lots of silver armor.
Cool looking arm armor.

As I've already stated, a new character gets the nod ahead of a boring repaint anyday. More characters (especially named Cobras) is what the line needed.

Because even the "greats" get boring after a while. New characters keep everything fresh.

Actually, I have Blackout, and he's a pretty cool figure if you put the goggles on I voted "YAY" on him because I believe the Stall family was the most interesting story element of JvC through VvV. His mold isn't awful, but Barrel Roll and Bombstrike's are better.
Have fun!!!

Let me see something. Can you guys imagine Joes going one with only releases of the original '82 figs? No fight intended here lehsreh, just random thoughts. Low Light, was a new character back in '86. Can you imagine folks ranting about him?
The new characters are the NEW blood on the line. I can agree with you that wave after wave of NEW characters would kill the Joes. But what kept the line running was childrens getting new characters here and there. But some old, need a re-release to be made better. Look Duke v1 and Duke v8.
About Blackout Yay. Sniper wearing black with a cool new rifle and googles, can't go wrong. Somethings could have been diferent, see silver highlights on him and the goofy face. But when he is on the field, googles and rifles with him, man. Bad Guy!
The family thing I'm not sure. It's a little lame to me. But kids could like it. And there would be many storylines coming up in childs mind.

Just to back up Twoguns
And no offence Lesh
But remember the line didn't start going downhill until around '91 or '92 when rehashes became a standard. In fact '94 only had about four or five new characters (and that was the end of the line) Granted other issued played parts too (Neon glows, weapons trees ect).
Fast forward a bit, and remember how Hasbro keeps saying the sales are hurting joes. That they just can't reach that magic number (Said repeatedly during Jvc, Spy Troops and VvV and on up into DTC).
Now up to today, what is lingering, Roadblock, Hiss Drivers, Vipers, Even Destro. What is the one thing you are not seeing linger, Trakker, nope, Bazooka troopers, no, Para Vipers no, not even pilot scarletts or "black" storm shadows (who at least seem like new characters if you know your international stuffs).
My point is Joe needs a bit more freshness, I know the movie and toon are coming out but again its the same guys over and over. I still say some good new characters might cut it
On to blackout: Potential is there, but the figure had that sad pose for the arms (One arm crocked and only looked good in one pose), the other thing was the whole weird brother/sister/brother story that really never went anywhere. Like I said potentail but nothing done with it, so if there was a neutral option I would be on it.

Agreed! I find the fact the head looks cross-eyed and is a sniper to be absolutely hilarious.
