I hate to be the bad guy here, but I never could get into Pantera. Yeah, they had some great tunes... but... Once I heard that they were a hair band... Man... It explained a lot. Look at it this way. Hair metal was known for their outlandish, effects laiden (sp?) solos. Metal was known for heavy riffs and gnarly vocals. But Pantera... Their solos never seemed to fit. Sure the current metal age seems to cater to this... but there are BETTER metal bands out there. Pantera was a beast and an icon. But at the same time, I can't just get behind them as many due. Pantera was huge but I was all about Fear Factory (ok, more industrial metal and no solos, but man...). Pantera has their place in history, moreso than a lot of metal and 'metal' bands.

Pantera a "hair band?" really? I will have to disagree. I saw them live whenever they came into town and I would never say they were anythink like a Poison or a Motley Crue. Phil was so drunk once that they clipped several songs because he forgot the words. That sucked, but their music was always killer.

They put out a couple glam metal albums before Cowboys From Hell. The band photos from that time are hilarious.

You can google the pics. They should pop up as fast as the album cover for Far Beyond Driven.
