The Comic Box #34!!!
Welcome to The Comic Box. This is a discussion thread for the GI Joe comics. We start at Marvel’s #1 and move thru the series every Wednesday. It’s a chance to give your thoughts, opinions and remarks about the comic in question.
#34. Shake Down!
~Short Summary~
Ace and Lady Jay take a modified SkyStriker up for a flight, even as Wild Weasel and Baroness do likewise with a Rattler. A battle ensues, ends in a draw, with the two pilots saluting each other out of respect.
~Notes of Interest~
Definitely one of the best issues. A comic totally devoted to the Skystriker and the Rattler. Great action, great artwork.

I have to admit that this is one of the most 'worn' issues of my collection.....it's also one of the most 'drawn' as well.........
I simply love, Love, LOVE this issue!!! From cover to cover, it produces the best storyline for each one of these characters........and leaves you begging for more!!!
I was always drawn to the last page when Ace and Wild Weasel are just flying off, each with a woman 'nagging' them from behind..........always made me want to 'NOT' be that kind of woman............you know, the one who 'just didn't get it'.......

one of the greatest issues that really featured two underused characters this issue was really all about both of these great pilots and even though they were enemies they could still respect one another's skill....that says a lot

this is one issue that really stands out. the only issue that i can remember that even had wild weasel in it. the joe comics would still be part of marvel if they had continued to do comics in this way.

A definite favorite of mine-my copy is pretty beat up,just like yours GS!
I love jet fighters anyway, and every word of the dogfight is accurate-what more could you want? The classic battle of Skystriker vs. Rattler-Ace vs. Wild Weasel-Lady Jaye and the Baroness
Truly excellent issue!

Gotta agree! As an aircraft enthusiast, this issue still lingers in my memory as one of the best Joe comics ever.

It was nice to see a one shot issue from time to time to let the plot simmer on the back burner and just enjoy character development (or showing off new vehicles) in a self contained story. You didn't need to read 33 or 35 to understand this one. If this was your only comic, you could read it over and over without wondering what happened next or why someone was doing something a certain way.
An excellent issue.

Gotta Agree with everyone here, Fantastic Story!!!! I think it's the only Air battle ever done from start to finish in a comic!!!

One of my favorite issues. That we had a Theme Week (or something ?) I ended up doing this picture because I was so inspired by the story.
