The Comic Box #39!!!
Welcome to The Comic Box. This is a discussion thread for the GI Joe comics. We start at Marvel’s #1 and move thru the series every Wednesday. It’s a chance to give your thoughts, opinions and remarks about the comic in question.
#39. Walk Through the Jungle
~Short Summary~
The Joes rescue Dr. Adele Burkhart in the jungles of Sierra Gordo, with help from a native tribe called the Tucaros. Storm Shadow begins to give Billy training as a ninja.
~Notes of Interest~
Dr. Adele Burkhart, who hasn't been seen since issue #1, is rescued again. Billy begins his ninja training with Storm Shadow. The Joes learn of a Cobra operation in the Gulf of Mexico, but don't know what it is yet. Cobra Island, anyone?

a good issue that goes back to the joes rescuing Burkhart again plus lets a couple of the joes really shine, these were always my favorite type of stories that focused on a small cast per issue plus the stirrings in the gulf that led to Cobra island were pure gold

Goof, in the previous issue the jungle bunker had cobra markings, here it's not associated with Cobra at all.
Why does Gung-Ho wear a helmet on the cover?

No huge developments in the storyline, although the beginnings of Cobra Island was cool. Love that cover though!

Another one of my favorites!!!! But I didn't get it until well after it came out!!! My family had moved to maine and there was no one in my town that sold comics so I eventually found a place to buy them 38 miles away in another town. So I missed a few issues in between. I found this one much later at a tag sale.... It was beat up but I was so happy to find it I didn't care... It was great to see how the events of the beginnings of Cobra Island were formed & of course it's always Great to see Recondo, Rip-cord & Stalker in action!!!

I remember the cover more than I remember what happened inside. Dr Burkhart? Totally forgot about her and didn't notice her appearance in the comic. Guess I was still stuck on the cover. And I always thought that was Footloose, Stalker and Roadblock.
