My son got this Hot Wheels delivery truck, and the decor on the side looks familiar... Did they blatantly rip off Snake-Eyes, or is this "just a coincidence."
The copyright on the bottom of the truck says 1986, but I'm sure that had to do with the mold. (I doubt the store would have kept the truck on their shelves for the last23 to 24 years.)
As I seem to recall, ninjas were all the rage back in the mid '80s. Everything was going ninja at that time, including myself for Halloeen one year. While it does look like out favorite silent commando, I'm guessing Mattel's intention was was just to keep up with the ninja fad.

Some people, when trying to avoid thinking about those things that cause them pain, turn to drink, or perhaps food, or drugs... I turn not to any of those... I collect action figures, turning my mind to the hunt, so that I might find a mote of peace... Over the years, I've found that alcoholism is much more socially acceptable by far.
Excellent! I thought the 1986 on the bottom was similar to when Hasbro released old tool stuff in the early 2000's. They use old molds with old dates on it, some new paint, and they are in business!
When I was in Thailand this New Years, I noticed the same Hotwheels were on sale there as here. In the past, I remember the Hotwheels in Singapore were different than those in the States. Now what I saw a lot of over there were some competitors Exclr8 (if I got the name right). They were everywhere, and I'm seeing them more and more here too.
