Exclamation The Comic Box #53 AND 'Special Missions' #4 !!!

Welcome to The Comic Box. This is a discussion thread for the GI Joe comics. We start at Marvel’s #1 and move thru the series every week. It’s a chance to give your thoughts, opinions and remarks about the comic in question.


#53. Pit-Fall


~Short Summary~
As an attempt to win the loyalty of the Cobra troops, Cobra Commander leads an attack on the GI Joe base, The Pit. The Joes have been suspended, so as Cobra attacks they are mostly attacking a deserted base. Hawk, along with a couple of Generals and an Admiral fight a losing battle inside The Pit. Cobra Commander and Destro are in the bottom of The Pit when it completely collapses.

~Notes of Interest~
First Appearance of General Hollingsworth.
Introduction and Death of Admiral Dyson, General Ryan
First hint of Flint and Lady Jaye's relationship.
Destro and Cobra Commander are trapped in the bottom of The Pit, presumed dead.

#4. No Holds Barred


~Short Summary~
LOCATION: South China Sea near the Malay Peninsula Leatherneck, Roadblock, Wild Bill and Lifeline have stolen a Cobra Firebat and are in the process of extracting themselves. They are shot down before reaching safe territory and their new mission is then to escape with just the black box of the Firebat.

~Notes of Interest~
The individual Special Mission issues influence on the main series fluctuates from being a completely separate story to having a minor influence or is a direct continuation from the regular Marvel series.

~Major Players~
Main Mission Joes: Leatherneck, Lifeline, Roadblock, Wild Bill
October Guard: Colonel Brekhov, Diana, Horrorshow, Schrage, Stormavik
Special Missions Only Characters: Sarawak Sally (River Pirate)

Special Missions #4...another great issue of this very cool run. I always remember Lifeline and his "deflecting" of hostile energy directed at him....and if I remember correctly, Horror Show learned a valuable lesson after messing with him!

Issue 53 had a great cover imo. Snake Eyes looks bad-ass for sure, but it also capitalized on some of my favorite arvel character in my favorite costumes. I liked this issue as it lead into the Cobra Commander/Fred VII thing.

Haven't read SM #4, but I love the cover and have been meaning to snag that one for sometime!
