My G.I. Joe Team Roster
In the thread about our respective Joe universes, I mentioned that I'd prepared a roster some time back showing my entire Joe team broken down. Well, I found it on a flash drive, so here it is:
(please note that everyone is listed in alphabetical order, not by rank)
(also, this isn't every Joe I own-- But it's every Joe I own that I think matters)
First up is the core of the G.I. Joe team. These are the guys that are at Joe HQ all the time, and get in on most of the missions:
Core Team
Ace
Airborne
Alpine
Bazooka
Beachhead
Breaker
Chuckles (Detached Intelligence)
Clutch
Cover Girl
Cross-Country
Dial-Tone
Doc
Duke (2nd-in-Command)
Dusty
Falcon (Head of Field Ops)
Flash
Flint (3rd-in-Command)
Footloose
Grand Slam
Grunt
Gung-Ho
Hawk (Commanding Officer)
Lady Jaye
Leatherneck
Lifeline
Lift Ticket
Low-Light
Mainframe (IT Chief)
Recondo
Roadblock
Scarlett (Honorary member, Ninja Force)
Sci-Fi
Short-Fuze
Slipstream
Snake-Eyes (Part-Time member, Ninja Force)
Spirit
Steeler
Stretcher
Tripwire
Tunnel Rat
Wild Bill
Zap
You'll note that, with a few exceptions, these are the main Joes from the comics and cartoon series circa 1982-1986. That's because I consider those the definitive years for G.I. Joe.
After them come the auxiliary members of the team. These guys sometimes hang around HQ, but are mostly reservists serving in their own branches of the military, or are on extended missions in the field:
Reservists and Extended Team
Ambush
Backblast
Barbecue
Blocker
Blowtorch
Crazy Legs
Dodger
Dogfight
Hot Seat
Knockdown
Major Storm
Maverick
Mercer
Mirage
Muskrat
Outback
Pathfinder
Psyche-Out
Spearhead & Max
Steamroller
Tracker
You may note that in my stories, some of these guys, Psyche-Out for example, tend to hang around HQ as much as the core members. However, they're considered "extended" team members because they rarely venture off-base to go on missions.
Next up is the Joe Headquarters security team. These guys are pretty much always at HQ, and don't see much action in the field:
Security Team
Captain Grid-Iron (security chief & special teams commander)
Heavy Duty
Law & Order
Mutt & Junkyard
Rock n’ Roll
You'll see that Grid-Iron is listed as both security chief and special teams commander. What are the special teams? Well, they came out within a year or so of Grid-Iron himself, and got some face-time in the DIC cartoons. I speak, of course, of the various Forces and Warriors:
Chemical, Biological Weapons Specialists (a.k.a. Eco-Warriors)
Airtight
Clean-Sweep
Ozone
Martial Arts Operations (a.k.a. Ninja Force)
Dojo
Jinx
Nunchuk
Quick-Kick
Storm Shadow
T’J’Bang
Cold Weather Operations (a.k.a. Arctic Force)
Blizzard
Frostbite
Iceberg
Snowstorm
Sub-Zero
Windchill
(Yeah, that's right-- I don't own a Snow-Job! Don't remind me!)
Urban Operations Specialists
Barricade
Bulletproof
Bullhorn
Shockwave
As stated above, Captain Grid-Iron is in overall command of these groups, coordinating their missions ("quarterbacking", if you will [sorry, couldn't resist!]) from G.I. Joe headquarters. All their mission briefings and orders come from Grid-Iron.
Finally, we have the naval branch of the Joe team. They all mostly hang out on the U.S.S. Flagg-- which means, since I don't own one, that we rarely see some of them. Except Shipwreck. As in the cartoon, he just hangs around Joe headquarters all the time.
Naval Operations
Cutter
Deep Six
Keel-Haul
Shipwreck
Topside
Torpedo
Wet-Suit
Finally, there are the newbies. When I made this roster (around the same time I did the first TF crossover), they were still brand-new recruits to the Joe team, and hadn't yet been placed in their appropriate groups. As of the second TF crossover, they've graduated from their training program, and have been placed in the actual team. In parentheses here, you can see where they wound up:
G.I. Joe Team New Recruits
Barrage (core)
Barrel Roll (core)
Bombstrike (core)
Chameleon (detached intelligence)
Crosshair (extended)
Dart (extended)
Hacker (IT)
Hard-Drive (IT)
Hi-Tech (IT)
Wide-Scope (urban operations)
