Default an army or one???

do you have an army of characters, say cobra guards or just use one and pretend there are more. myself as a kid, we (all my friends and i) would just but different characters so we could try to get one of every character. we would never buy more then any one figure. needless to say i do not have more then 1 of any viper or whatever. i did have 3 night vipers, but that was because we all liked him so much that we each bought one. now i have 2 versions of vipers and a few others, but nothing where it looks cool like i have a group of them. just wondering what you all do? ive saw a lot of you with a ton of vipers and such, did you buy them for the dios mainly, or just to have a bunch.

Well, I try to army build, but since I don't have my own place and can't have boxes and figures lying all over the floor or anywhere outside my room, my numbers are kind of limited... Breaking it down by numbers, here's what I have:

Vipers (2002 green, 2003 Venom Cycle Drivers): 18
Viper Squad Leaders (1986 Vipers): 2
Crimson Guards (6-pack versions): 8
Night Ops Crimson Guards (CG 6-pack Fireflies with Chap Mei heads): 2
Red Ninjas (6-pack versions): 5
Alley-Vipers (2002 blue, 2003 blue): 6
SAW-Vipers (v1): 3
HEAT-Vipers (2001 Fast Blast Vipers): 3
BATs (2003 Internet versions): 5
Range-Vipers (2000 Rock-Vipers): 5
Incinerators: 2
Cobra Seaborne Crewmen (1992-1993 Eels): 3
Toxo-Vipers (Funskool): 2
Night-Vipers (Funskool): 5
Blueshirt 6-packs: two full sets
Fully-crewed HISSes: Two original HISS with drivers and JvC Shock-Vipers as gunners, one HISS III with driver and ARAHC Shock-Viper as gunner

I also have two Tele-Vipers and four 2000 Undertows that I purchased this month but have not arrived yet. I also have a secret army built custom project that I've managed to acquire six base figures for so far.

That's pretty much it for me at this time.

As a kid, though, I had ONE Crimson Guard and that was it for my Cobras, and later on I got ONE Eel (1992 edition) and ONE Viper (1997 edition) and ONE Cobra Officer (1983 edition)... wasn't until mid-2005 that I started to army build, starting with the set that got me back into Joes, the Crimson Guard 6-pack.

You musta had more money than me as a kid cuz I was scrounging to get figures all the time. Sure, X-Mas and birthday was when I got the most but man, I remember saving up my whopping $3. Which is why I always had more figures than vehicles cuz it was easier to buy a figure than a $10 vehicle. And imagine how much $20 was to me back then! lol

So the answer was, yes. I had to pretend I had EELs running around.

I never heard about the concept "armybuilding" untill I entered the collecting world Only bought one of each. But now that I've seen lots and lots of pics of army-building, I have started to look for a second fig of all troops; first step of a future army-building, when I have enough space and money fot it.

When I first started collecting, it was difficult for me to build armies. I wanted to but I was a kid working part time. Even when I had the money, we lived in East Bum-F**K Egypt, also known as Albion NY. The nearest Toys R US was 30 miles away in Rochester NY and my Parents hated the city! When I was 16, and had a car and money, It cost so much for the car, I could get there, but had no cash. I tried! I actually suceeded in getting 30 V1 Vipers! But that was the big accomplishment of my collecting back then!

In 2002 I started up again with a Vengance and since then went from 574 figures to 1,800+ I have now. I try to keep Vipers at 1 platoon (30 3 x 10 man squads) and speciality vipers (HEAT, Frag, Techno, SAW) to 10 man squads. Some I have more of, some less. I'd love to have like 300 vipers and platoons of "Specialist" vipers, but as of now, I'm almost out of storage room!

Ditto here. A couple more Vipers and my Cobra army will hit the magic 1,000 mark. Throw in around 800 Joes and my storage space is just about done as well. I gotta get a bigger house!

I have had to put my Joe buying on hold for the time being, with the baby due in 3 months, my Joe room has began to be turned into a nursery. So now all my Joes and Cobras are in storage bins stacked anywhere I can find room. I don't have near the numbers of figures Frank or Craig does, mine is around the 450 to 500 mark, mainly being Cobra troops. I have a Platoon each of Blueshirts, Vipers (both 86 and new Viper Pit), Crimson Guards (mainly 6 pack figures), and BATs (Mainly 2003 internet version). But I do have lots of vehciles, 10 HISS tanks (8 1984 and 2 DTC) 4 Stingers, 2 Rattlers, 1 Nightraven, 1 Terror Drome, 4 Ferrets, 1 Skystriker, 1 Conquest X-30, 2 Bridgelayers, 1 Wolverine, 1 Vamp, 1 Command Center, 1 HAL, 1 Dragonfly repaint (2000 Locust), 2 FLAK, 2 JUMP platforms and jetpacks, 1 Mobile Missile System, 2 MOBATs (one being the 98 rerelease), 2 RAM's, 4 ASPs, 1 Moray, 1 WHALE, 1 AWE Striker, 1 Slugger, 1 Transportable Tactical Battle Platform, 1 Tomahawk, 1 HAVOC, 1 Thunder Machine, 1 Mobile Command Center, 1 Jungle Strike Humvee, 3 Night Ops Humvees, 1 ROCC, 1 RHINO, 1 Crimson Command Copter, 1 Operation Crimson Sabotage (Crimson ASP and HISS), along with 2 Power Team Elite F-18s, 2 PTE Blackhawks, 2 PTE Little Birds, 2 PTE Watchtowers, 2 PTE M-1 Abrahms Tanks, 2 PTE Humvees, and 1 covered PTE humvee.

Makes for lots of storage bins. But at least Misty told me I can buy all the 25th figures I want seeing as how the next few months are put on hold.

Well you're only 12. When I was 12 I had about the same amount, so I had to make due with Corps figures. But a savior came in the form of the 97 figures. Your savior will come in the form of the 25th anniversary figures.
So, all is not lost yet, my young apprentice.
