Default Page Scanning

I was wondering what is the best resolution to use when scanning a full page (8.5 x 11) for posting on the site here.

Depends on the intended use. 72ppi (pixels per inch) is fine for screen viewing but will print blurry. And your average printer (<$200) can only print 600dpi (ppi equivalent). A 72ppi file is smaller, while a 600ppi at true 8.5"x11" size will be gigantic.

My suggestion: downsize it by half (4.25"x5.5") and scan at 300ppi then check the file size. Even a jpeg compressed by half will print okay.

Thanks for the info cyko. I only have MS Word available to work with, and I just want to post my dio-story pages to view on this site. Thanks again.

Ah, sorry if my response was a little too "out there". I've got Word 2003 on my laptop, and this was the process:
1) from menu bar at top: Insert -> Picture -> From Scanner or Camera
2) In the window that appears, choose your scanner as the Device
* "Web quality" will probably be fine, since Word will compress the scanned image (and you're posting to the Internet, right?)
3) I've got buttons for "Insert" and "Custom Insert". "Insert" automatically scans what's in your scanner and sends it to Word. However, "Custom Insert" should start your scanner software, which will let you tweak the settings I described before.
4) Document is scanned and brought into Word. You'll probably save it as an image, since a Word *.doc file will just have an image inside it (probably jpeg).

In fact, you should be able to side-step Word altogether and scan a document via your Scanner software. PM me or yahoo IM if you could use some help.
