Default Air Force Base Visit part I

I'll tell you a little about a trip that I did today (october, 12/2006). I have some photos too . Hope you like it! WARNING: If you can't stand some english gramatical errors DO NOT READ THIS!

This week is the week that we celebrate the aviation day. So all the Air Force bases are open gates.

The Air Force base is located in a city called Canoas on the Rio Grande do Sul state. Canoas is 110km far from my city, Lajeado. In this Air Force base are one of the most advanced fighter from our Air Force. They did an entire upgrade on the F-5E/F Tiger II. Now he is called F-5EM (monoplace) and F-5FM (biplace).

But we need to start from the begining. The next one in the line is a plane called P-95C Bandeirulha. His responsability is maritime patroal. The big nose is the home of a big maritime radar. He was made here in Brazil. A national product. Embraer is the 3rd biggest airplane factory in the world. Embraer lost just for Boeing and Airbus.

Next in the line is the UH-1H Huey. That we call here, Sapćo (Big Frog). The Huey are in use in south Brazil, where I live. In the Amazon they're being replaced by the Blackhawk HH-60.

This babie down here is a Navy hello. Don't know much about him, I'm more Air Force fanboy.

Navy hello

Umm... not quite sure but this chopper is similar in look to Hughes 500 model, but with some serious changes.
It depends though if it has three or five blade rotor...

Of course - I could be wrong...

Why are all the UH 60s being stationed in the Amazon? I would think that the airforce could use them everywhere? Does the Amazon get some kind of special privilege of some kind?

They were stationed there 'cuz the raiforest is way to big to small choppers do the work. So we need a little more "weight" there and the answear is the Uh-60. But the blackhawks aren't from the Air Force, but from the army. They have some plans to buy the MH-53 Pave or MH-47 Chinook.
Of course they can be used everywhere but they were most needed on the Amazon Rainforest. There are no many places to land an aircraft, so an hello is welcome to aid indigenous comunities that live far from civilization till todays.

It's nice to see the F-5 still rockin' the world. we only use them as adversary trainers in the U.S.citizens can also buy them as private jets. (I want one) if only the F-20 made it through, i heard it was a bit better. and i am also an air force fanboy

You are right the old F-5 aren't good as the F-20, but our F-5 received a big upgrade. I'm still looking to pictures, but wasn't able to find. What we know is that was an Israeli company who did the work and they are flying with avionics similar to the F-16 from Israel. The Pampa squadron, where are flying the new F-5EM won a competition against other fighter squadrons from Air Force.

I was wondering if it had to do with indigenous people living in the rainforest, but I didn't ask since I didn't know if you would know or not. That's cool to see they're getting support from some of the cooler helicopters out there. The Blackhawk has always been my favorite, but then I think the book, movie and game biased me on that.

Cool pics. I'm somewhat of an F-5 (Tiger) fan myself. There's a classic anime series called "Area 88" you've probably heard or seen of. Shin Kazama, the lead character flies the plane.
