My memories when I think of G.I.JOE
Funnily enough I also think of dirt, and sand.. because i used to take them to the beach..

I also think of my friend who used to come over and we used to pick GIJOE teams.. build up a big story line and have hours of fun.. our summers (6 weeks holidays) as it was called back then.. we used to be off school and have 6 weeks of none stop GIJOE.. I also think about our old house we used to live in.

The Christmas my brother and I got the Flagg. Not only was it the most awesome playset ever, we were the only ones in the neighborhood to get it...ever! I can still remember my dad putting it together, it took him about 6 hours. Never before, nor since, have I ever heard such masterful, poetic filth come from one man.

Theres one Very Happy memory i'll never forget that involved G.I Joe,it was way back when G.I Joe was first getting going.I was sick alot when I was a Kid,and just about every Year i'd have to go to UVA for Surgery.At this point I had the first bunch of Figures,and a couple Vehicles.And around the time I was going down for one of my many Yearly Operations the Mobat Tank was just coming out,and you couldn't find them anywhere yet.My Grandpa spoiled me something crazy,he would take me to buy all my Joes.So before I left he asked me what I wanted him to get me for a Present for when I got back,and of course I said the Mobat.Well I was gone for 2 Weeks for my Surgery,and the whole time I was gone I found out Grandpa was going crazy driving & calling everywhere trying to find me a Mobat.Well he never let me down one time in my life,and this time wasn't any different.He finally found a Store that just got a couple in,so he drove there ASAP and bought me one.The only trouble was the Store was around 3 hours away,but that didn't stop him.And sure enough when me my Mom & Grandma pulled into the Driveway there was Pop with a Big Smile & my brand new Mobat,that sure made one Sick Boys Day!I still have my Mobat to this Day,but my Paw passed away in 1995.I always took great care of my Mobat,it never even went outside.So it's still in Mint Condition,and it's one Mobat that's Priceless to me! THANK'S Paw!

I remember one Christmas and I really wanted the Tomahawk. I knew it would take up a bit of space, but I loved helicopters. As we went around unwrapping gifts, I didn't see any packages that fit the size.

Well I got down to the last present and opened it and it was a tiny Matchbox sized diecast helicopter. I swallowed hard and told my parents thanks for the helicopter. Mom said "Why don't you look at the back of the package?"

...There was a little sticky note that said "Go check in the coat closet."

My emotions went from subdued disappointment to jubilation in about 6 seconds!!!

There was the Tomahawk!!

Mom said she knew I wanted it, but there was no way to "disguise" the box.

That just came to mind when I read this thread.

My memories are related to the G.I. Joe comercials. The '82 series that was released here in '84 or something like that, had a big mountain as base on the comercial. I can remember the fight. I was just sad that about that time I couldn't get any Joes due to their price and low profit my parents were making that time.

However, there aren't only sad memories. I used to have the Armymen and so do my friends. We seatled BIG battles, involving BIG armies, since the green plastic armymen were cheaper. My armymen became my Joes at the time.

By the end of the '80s I got my first Joe, if I remember it was Fast Draw. In the '90s came Voltar, Rampart (My all time general) and Alpinista new. I was also able to buy some 2nd handed Joes/cobras/vehicles from a guy on Highschool. But never let him know they were for me . Other of my childhoods friends got Joes from him. So I was 14/15 and playing Joes with my 14/15/16 friends hiding on the woods . So the '90s were the decade for me.

Not to mention the Use Your Illusion from GN'R in '91 to add to my Apetite for Destruction LP. Oh yeah, I'm a gunner . Hard Rock baby!

On moves Predator and all the Vietnam era movies got our attention.

I have LOTS of Memories about the 80's and GI Joe. I remember July 4th 1982, when I went on a beer run with my uncle and dad to Rite Aid (I can't remember why they went to the drug store to buy beer!?!) but I saw new GI Joe figures and a few weeks earlier, I had just bought the GI Joe Comic. There I saw them....Stalker, Snake eyes, Grunt, RockNRoll, Flash and Zap. I snagged SE and Stalker and headed to the register. My uncle, who didn't wanna waste time having me check out separately (I would have cut into his beer time!) paid for my first two Joes.

A few hours later I went back and got Flash and Rock-N-Roll. I was into StarWars at the time and I Loved that the new joes were the same size. The Articulation blew me away (and this was before swivel arm!)

That was ONE of my memories.

I remember my father had a garden in the back one year (he never got anything to grow!). in spring of 1983, I dug it up and made a trench around it and put my 1983 HQ in the middle and made a fire base out of it.


I remember having friends that collected and we set up HUGE wars. Most of the time, by the time we unloaded our stuff and set up, it was time to go!

I remember getting me and my Cousin Gregory (he was about 8 and I was about 17 or 18) TomaHawks. I remember they cost $16.99 a piece and I loved having a troop carrying helicopter!

And I remember going to Hills Department store and having to use $50.00 of my own money to buy the FLAGG on Christmas. (My Parents were poor, so they agreed to pay half.!) We were in my Aunt's little hatchback and the box was so big we had to lower the back seat and sit on the Box with our heads cranked to the side because we were hitting the ceiling. We had stiff necks for two days because the ride was an hour and a half and my sister and cousin Anita cursed me the whole time!
