Ideas
Ok I was thinking,
What do you use Duke and Snake Eyes as?
Duke- He's a G.I.Joe Sarge and actually pretty tough.
He's not like in the cartoons, he's actually a bad a$$
Snake EYes- Not a ninja, ( well he's trained to be).
He is a Military Commando who is one of the greatest inflitrators on the Joe team.
And he doesnt use a sword!!
So,
Give us your replys
-Matt

duke=mmm, well im using him in my dio right now, you can look and see what i use him for. ill just say i have no love for him. he is the field leader and he's tough, but he is by no means the backbone of my joe team.
snake eyes= no love for him either, but out of respect for the love i had for him as a kid, i dont use him much because if i did im afraid i would just humiliate him. but i do consider him a martial artist, and a good one, just not the best by far.

Duke and Snake Eyes are the less attractive 2/3 of a love triangle.
Yikes, did I just type that?!
Actually, I mostly used the grinning v1 Duke as a Sky-Hawk pilot as a kid. In fact, I think I just left him in there, so he is packed, in the Sky Hawk, in a box somewhere in my basement.
I have so many versions of Snake-Eyes, I couldn't even tell you. My current favorite is the dark black single pack 25A (repainted version of the 5 pack one). His legs pivot well, his gear is detailed. He looks and plays well. I like him more as the Commando who overestimates the amount of C-4 needed rather than the honed razor swordsman, ready to fly out of the sheath at a moment's notice. I sometimes use him as a ninja, but I like him as explosives expert and special recon ops...
Good question for a thread, to get us thinking about 2 of the most over-exposed characters of the toy line...

You gotta read thru the Prologue of my latest dio and check out the FILES to see how my Duke is. But Snake Eyes, I haven't dealt with him quite yet. I'm gonna try and push the FILES of the characters of the dio at this time. ie; Gung Ho and Sonneilon just showed up!

Well, Duke I tend to use as he was originally intended, as a sergeant and nothing more, certainly not as a commander of Joe forces at all. And Snake Eyes? Like you said, a highly trained commando, who is proficient at several forms of martial arts, but certainly no mystical ninja!

Mystical Ninja
What is interesting to hear is that most people tend to lean against what happened with Snake Eyes.. no mystical ninja BS.
Anyone here actually work off the whole storyline and use him as a mystical ninja?

Re: Snake Eyes
Normally I try not to, but I can't resist having him duke it out with Stormshadow once in a while, but the whole mystical ninja stuff, I try to avoid.
As for Duke, like others hes just the Top Kick in my Joe verse, I usually stick with Flint as field commander, and Hawk as overall commander.

Yep. What with being a comics continuity whore and all.
I basically see Snake Eyes as an INCREDIBLY driven man. Kinda like Batman -- if he's going to do something, there's going to be no half-measures and he'll make damned sure he's the absolute best he can be. So, if he's going to study the martial arts, he's going to throw himself into it and push himself until he's the best there is at what he does.* Not to say he can't be an incredibly skilled commando when the situation calls for it too, as the comics have shown -- I love the story towards the end of the Marvel run where CC has Mindbender build a chamber using holograms and other special effects to mess with ninja senses & skills, so Snake Eyes goes off and gets tooled up with guns, grenades and smoke bombs then walks back to CC's "danger room" and just blasts the crap out of the place.

Although I haven't used either of them in a dio, when I do, they will be utilized as follows;
Duke; First Sergeant. More like a SgtMajor, stays at base or close to Hawk as the Enlisted Advisor to the C.O. (Hawk). He will sit in a COC (Combat Operations Center) and advise and coordinate. He is not a Field Soldier!
Snake Eyes; A commando and ninja trained. But NOT this hollywood style of ninja. The Stephen K. Hayes brand of practical/ Modern Ninja. Prefers a mac-10 with silencer over a ninja-to!
Does that work for ya?

I like both Duke and Snake Eyes, though I do think they might be a bit overused (especially Snake Eyes). Right now I don't have any plans to use SE or Duke in my dios for the time being. If I were to use Snake Eyes, I would use the one I got with the 25th 5 pack. My favorite Snake Eyes stories in both the cartoon and comic were when he was in this outfit. I definitely prefer him as a commando over an invincible ninja. No swords for him.
As for Duke, I think I would use him like Jack Bauer from 24. Leading missions in the field and doing them his own way.
