Scarlett, cool off. Reacting like that to a little criticism is counterproductive, and doesn't speak volumes for your 'calm mind.'

I pitched in on the overmoderation charge -- with good reason -- but I think a few people have the mistaken impression that moderation is a negative thing or that it wasn't a good idea. Once a forum reaches a certain size, it's certainly necessary, and I think that happened here a while ago.

However, things like your overly emotional outburst here and in very many of the threads you've locked do no good. I've been administering forums for the better part of a decade, and the best mods are those with little to no personal investment in the forum. It's not easy to find people like that, particularly when a forum is smaller, so those of us who do end up in that position need to work VERY hard to keep ourselves calm.

It is work -- thankless work -- but when you choose to accept that responsibility, you need to understand that your responsibility is to monitor rule violations, NOT to impose whatever social guidelines you consider best.
