No exageration, that was deadly serious. If kangaroos feel threatened, they rock back onto their tail and lash out with both hind legs at once, and those hind legs are extremely strong, and have sharp claws. Many people have walked up to kangaroos thinking they are harmless, only to have their abdomen ripped open before they even knew what was happening.
