Just a few off the top of my mind.
Being a history buff I love classic movies, and love the old war films. I do watch documentaries once a year like Victory at Sea, and even Vietnam, a History. For films it's gotta be the old stuff. Take Sahara, for example, it's gritty, or a few weeks ago on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) the movie "The Seven Graves".
How about non-WWII films? "The Four Feathers" (1939?) come to mind, or some of those about the French Foreign Legion. Lots of great stuff!
