2010 Con Vehicles
Greetings brief mortals!
Just been looking at the many photos about the 2010 Toy Fare going on and in terms of the vehicles, I'm not too excited.
The new HISS tank does look nice. It's probably the only vehicle I know I will buy, and will buy more than one. I do have about 17 of the classic version 1 HISS already, so I don't need to army build a batallion of 2010 HISS tanks. I would buy some to repaint--arctic and desert and black or german grey--and for that just need 2 for each (b/c in a photoshoot a HISS looks great when there are more than one.) But I'm not too wild about the 2010 HISS. Already I'm looking how to modify the thing so that it's more functional. How to attach cargo to it, like the Arctic HISS can do. It's got holes for attaching accessories, which I'm thinking about. And I wonder how many figures can fit in the cargo hold.
The new VAMP I'm not impressed at all with. It looks like one of those huge jeep vehicles at Walmart that sells for like $10. Put a classic HISS next to it and the new VAMP would look like it dwarfs the HISS. It's massive. It looks like it's very armored. Must be heavy to transport. I like that it can fit more Joes in the backseats, and it would be up to me to add a windshield and other protectives. For it's massiveness I rather the classic VAMP, b/c it looks lighter, faster, easier to lift and transport. I think someone has already modified the classic VAMP to take 4 ppl, much like the original VAMP idea was, the Cheeta. This new VAMP has me thinking how difficult would it be to extend a classic VAMP to sit four.
There seems to be plans for a Snow Cat. I wasn't too impressed with the Snow Cat when that came out in 1985, so I never got one. But this new one seems to have some improvements.. especially the missle area. I might get one.
A COBRA Rage is coming out, of which I don't see it practical as an urban vehicle. I like the Alley Viper though. An urban vehicle for me is one that can maneuver in confined spaces like many cities have, especially European ones with older, narrow streets, and good ground clearance. I don't see Cobra marching into a city, taking the highways, occupying large open spaces like an airfield with Alley Vipers. I see that more for regular troops with HISS's, Stingers, and even STUN's.
The mechs I'm not impressed with much other than the feet. The feet parts look nice. The rest of the machine I can see use in an urban environment for the ability to turn in a tight space, walk over rubble, but those arms are lacking. A winch is a good idea, missiles are ok, guns too, and looks like some have these pincers or clamps that can hold stuff, but I don't see them being able to grab something, or even lift them up if they topple over. I can see the winch being used to hoist them to a standing position if they fall on their back. So no arms is a disappointment for me.
The other vehicles I don't know the names of. There's some white Cobra arctic thing that might be okay if I can study it more. There's what looks like a dread nok cycle. But, what are you're thoughts?
