It's tricky but the main thing I do is use color light gels. They aren't really that expensive. The biggest expense is the lights themselves. A system like the ones in these shots would cost about $200. I was very lucky because i was part of a band at one point that used these for our shows and I ended up with them by default.

But also, the number one thing I do to make the color so rich is that I use the manual settings on my camera, I hardly ever use the presets. It takes time to figure it out and a lot of trail and error but when you get it right, it's well worth the work.
