I really wanna start my hand at customizing, and waiting for that exact Scarlett figure to drop to a point where if I mess her up with my poor painting skills I won't feel so bad. This sudden increase in price is NUTSO.

Did you double check the price with a price checker?
Last week I found some ROC figures hanging from a peg with POC price stickers, but when I price checked them they were still $5.
