Help with Amphibious landing

I need some ideas on how take photos of an amphibious landing. I really don't want to take my stuff to the beach. I've thought of getting a kiddie pool and filling it with sand and water and trying to build a beach set, but that kind of set works best for a jungle or forest, where you can use something as a backdrop. A beach landing would require open vistas. Any ideas? Has anybody else done any beach landings?

I think a kiddie pool (think little tykes) would suite your needs just fine, buy pool sand which is a lot like beach sand, a few plants and you're in business!

For an expert opinion on this topic, call 1-800-MARINES. Been doin' them for 230+ years :)

The kiddie pool idea could work, but you'd have to choose your camera angles carefull or be willing to do some P-shoppin'. From the water to the beach would probably be easier than beach towards water or across the beach.

The other thing you'd have to take into consideration for a beach shot is waves, they're a bitch to scale and have look real.

If it has to be a beach, sorry, not going to help. But if you just want something coming ashore, a puddle after a rain storm will work if you're creative enough with the camera angles and cropping the picture.

Angles and Waves

Yeah, angles and waves are the trick. I was really trying to figure out a way to avoid having to add a background in photoshop, but I haven't come up with anything. And the only thing I can come up with to generate waves would be some kind of submerged pump under the water.

you can even get away using a stream or small pool of water . Heck if you look at my water pics they're in a duck pond we have at home :D lol

If you want shots of a open, bachy feel. Go to the How To section the Forum and read FlatLines how to on his beach.

Its a nice guide and loads of pics.

Beach Landing

Flatline's stuff is pretty cool. In my head I've got something like this pictured, except with a couple of Cobra Bugg's and a bunch of Vipers

I think the only way to achieve that level of realism is via green-screen using photoshop to blend real life beach background to a foreground of sand and cobras.
