How do you make lighting for 3 3/4" and 1:18 scale figures?
 

I really want to get my stuff looking realistic. I think I may finally have the knowledge for set-building; all I need now is to figure out how to light them properly.

And a bit more cash for supplies ;)

I shoot most of my shots outdoors, so lighting is not a problem most times, but when I do shoot indoors, I use a variety of lights. For a moonlight look, I use a small fluorescent work light that gives a nice even light over a wide area. For a "streetlight" type of look I have a number of small LED lights that I use to spotlight certain areas. Sometimes I even use an incandescent spotlight for a muzzle flash or blast effect. And then there's always the sheets of various colours of cellophane that I use as filters for mood lighting. Hope that helps!

I use those Christmas lights that you can get at a Dollar Store, they work great!

I use a desk light that can be positioned various ways and sometimes flashlights I look forward to finding out what others do as my lighting is not as good as I would like it to be.

When I shoot inside, I use the ceiling fan lights with all but one unscrewed, then I hold up a foamboard up to put the whole set in a shadow so there isnt any glare. I also have a small light set that used to be a trainset street lamp set. Now, I got some LED lights from Big Lots, they give off a strong blue light.

I'm gonna' have to implement some of these suggestions very soon. I have an LED light, but it's a tiny one and doesn't give off strong light.

Has anyone found "white lights" in a small scale, or anything else that could be used for fluorescent lighting?

VIolentFix uses the professional grade lamps that stand on those, uh, stands. I tend to use regular desk lamps as long as they can give off enough light and the stuff doesn't look yellow. I also use X-mas lights for lighting but that's very rare for me to use. Otherwise, I play a lot with frame rate and shutter speed and even Photoshop filters to get what I want.

One word; MICHAELS....or if you don't have one near you two words; HOBBY LOBBY. Around Christmas and Halloween they have the MOST AWESOME selections of small lights. Look around their "Halloween Village" displays and their "Christmas Village" displays. They have mini Christmas lights, spotlights and others. If you look in the Floral department, you can find tiny floral lights that work wonders. I also use those tiny flexible neck white LED lights with the laser pointers you can find in WalMart by the express checkout. Dollar Stores and Party City have TONS of small clip on LEDs and other small light sources along with colored lights for standard lamps. And of Course, there's Spencers for black lights. I also have a Black and Decker Snake Light I use for some shots. Or you can get a florescent light for use under a car hood. The possibilities are endless!

OH! and check the Holiday villages in the Hallmark Stores!!
