#54. Launch Base ~Short Summary~ Cobra has sold their first Terror Drome to the country of Sierra Gordo. Snake-Eyes disguised as Flint is dropped in to get captured as a ploy to get more information on the Terror Drome. At the bottom of the destroyed Pit, Cobra Commander and Destro are trying to figure a way out. ~Notes of Interest~ First Appearance of Slip Stream. Dial Tone's first appearance in the main series. (see Special Missions #2) Return of the country of Sierra Gordo. Showdown ~Short Summary~ LOCATION: Over the Gulf of Mexico Ace & Slip Stream are sent to intercept a Cobra Night Raven and its arrogant Strato-Viper pilot. I liked 54 a lot. It was prior to the ninja crossover and shortly before Snake Eyes second demise, at least I think it was the second. Anyway, I thought the cover was cool, because until you read it you don't realize it's actually Snake Eyes and not Flint.

Ah yes, two great issues here. The main story line was ticking over nicely, and it was always cool to see 'Dromes get some action. And Special Missions #5 was one of the great ones, with some cool aircraft action. I always remember the Strato Viper unsuccessfully trying to find his break out tool at the end....

I think I liked this issue way back when. Certainly, I thought the cover was awesome. Ahhhh, the good old days when all it took was a cover to sell the comic!
