army building for dios

most of us army build, but why and how many should we have? some army build just for the collection. i never did this, i never displayed my figures, and i never had the money to but 10 or 12 of the same figure when there were others i had to buy. besides, i could use only two and pretend there were others around when playing. what im wondering is when army building for dio purpose, how many is enough? myself, im thinking 4 to 6, depending on the figure. in most cases there wont be a ton of the same troop in any dio shot. if there are, then photoshop can remedy this. i see no need for more then 4 CG's, you dont see them together that much, so 4 will suffice. eels are a troop you dont see dozens of at one place either. how about all the others? im thinking 6, 8 at most. that way you have a squad. what are your thoughts? keep in mind im not talking displaying or just collecting here, im talking army building for the purpose of making dios.

I try to keep my armybuilding under control in general. I think I have no more than 5 of each 25th Cobra Trooper and 8 CGs (a couple for custom fodder). I think 5 is a nice number for me. I don't do huge dios so giant parade formations aren't an issue. The most I'd use in any given set up is what you've seen in my Deadly Encounters shots. That was a LOT to pose in that confined area. I have enough to properly man the few Cobra vehicles I have customized for battle scenes.

So for me I try to keep it around 5 of any particular version of trooper.

Now I do plan on building up a nice sized Joe arctic force but those are going to be named characters so I don't count them as armybuilders.

I think it depends on the kind of scene you want to show. Soundwave's Cobra comms centre looked awesome with all the Tele-Vipers, and Sonn's story with the pile of dead Vipers would have been difficult to achieve with Photoshop. Also, some of us don't have Photoshop...!

Hey, don't forget about the shot where Major Bludd and 20 Blueshirts are about to enter the compound. That was my gratuitious HISS TANK and BLUESHIRTS shot. :p

I try to keep a number of 4 for my cobra troops, however just from troops that I really like.

The pile-o-vipers just sticks in my memory as the most original way of showcasing a collection of army-builders I've ever seen. We never even saw them fighting/dying, they're introduced to the story purely as corpses!

Tis why you must have MANY!!!

But hey, it's fun to collect as many as you can too! I've got 40+ Neovipers and Vipers at my disposable. And if I ever come into mad cash, I'll start wiping out SicDunbine of DTC Blueshirts too! Someday, I'll get my armies where I want them. I need a few more DTC CGs (since a bunch of mine disappeared), Red Cobra Claws and maybe a few more Razor Troopers. :D

Army building is my weakness, especially with no new stuff worthy of my cash! I army build troops because I like them, I have never bought troops just to use in a picture. For instance, I have 24 Night Vipers, but I've never posted a shot with more than about a dozen of them in it. I generally stick to 6 or 8 for most troops, but happily exceed that for my faves. Put it this way, my Cobra/Mars army now numbers more than 1,050...what does that tell you?
