mercer
HEY people which one is the real name of Mercer : Felix straton or Richard Cecil :)
|
Who knows! From what I can recall, Ace and Cross Country had different names for some versions as well. Maybe Hasbro get complaints from real people with the same name as a Joe, and have to change it.

I think General Justin at General Joe's addressed this in one of his many dios... or maybe it was someone else... Something about one was his name and the other was an alias...It was a story where he was a double, triple or quadruple agent...
Turned from Cobra, joined Slaughter's, turned on the Joe's (or pretended to) and went back with intel (misinformation) to Cobra, then showed he was really a Joe in selfless act of sacrifice...Got badly injured, then grew a beard to cover the scars... Sorry if I messed that up or attributed the story to the wrong guy. I remember it was Justin, or a link from his site to another dio story... |
Was that Tim's Corner? The whole big story with the Constitution? I'm pretty sure I've seen more than one dio-story-creator use Mercer and delve into the character like this more.
As for his name, according to his file in Devil's Due's Special Missions: Manhattan (just reprinted in issue 1 of the Data Desk Handbook), his real name is Felix Stratton and Richard Cecil is listed as a known alias. Other characters with different filenames for the same code-name happened a bit in the RAHC -- Lifeline and Dusty (Night Rhino driver only) are the main ones I can think of. They had different birthplaces as well, and when Devil's Due has printed things like complete team rosters, they include these guys as separate characters. Mercer makes more sense to have one name be an alias, though, since both filecards say he's the only surviving Viper to defect from Cobra! |
thanks for the help :o

You nailed it. I clicked the link from General joe's to Tim's corner... I think the main name issue I remember was Dusty. Filecard and art had his last name as TADUR, but in the cartoon episode The Traitor (parts 1 and 2), he was Dusty RUDAT. Clearly someone had a dyslexic moment or (more likely) was looking at a reverse image of the card art when they pencilled the storyline/script. Wow, way too much Joe trivia floating my noggin'. |

Tell me about it! Rather than me explain it, scroll down to the Webmaster's Note here... http://www.yojoe.com/action/85/dusty.shtml Maybe they hadn't decided to flip it on the filecard yet when the animated series' "bible" was put together...? |
Wanna hear something that would cook your noodle?
Lifeline ver1 has a different name from Lifeline ver5 and Lifeline ver5 has the same name as Robo-Joe  Talk about WTF?? |
Lifeline V5 & Robo-JOE do have different birthplaces, so I figure it's 2 different Greg Scotts.
Lifeline V6 (Anti-Venom "Sgt. Lifeline") is the same guy as V5, but the headshot on his filecard is the original Lifeline...! |

I was thinking it might be because "Tadur" seems like a very hard name to say. It just doesn't roll off the tongue like "Hauser" or "Delgado," among the few other file names that were used on the TV show. |
