Advice....Museum?!?

I have an issue. I'm trying to make a museum scene for an upcoming dio. Anyone done this kind of thing before or have any advice or guidance on how to make this look good?

I have a ton of Ideas and have started the set, but I'm looking for any help that will make this better!

yorktownjoe 03-19-2008 04:15 AM

First, that is a great idea!

I would say you could use the bubbles from most figures as "Museum display cases." If the bubble is lying down, you could put almost anything "under glass."

Looking forward to it!

if you have access to lots of small cheap LED's or LED devices then you should try and put those in the glass cages, either at the top or bottom to light up what is being displayed

Marbelesque

A bright white floor.. that looks marbelesque.. the bubbles from figures is a great idea for display cases. :D

Or a chess board, well to me that seems very museumish, checkered floor.

have you decided on which kind of museum you want it to be?
I can easily see a dinosaur skeleton hanging in the ceiling/standing on the floor.
Lots of small displays in glass boxes (history museum?/Asian sword museum?)
Or paintings on the wall, lit up with lights underneath or over.

Hmmm... I might try something like this some day soon

Frank, do you remember the 1st chapter of "Transformations"? I had spray painted a ton of saline cans (for contacts) to act as pillars. I always saw museums having a lot of pillars. Some have grand staircases, depending on the size (ala Matrix2's mansion set). Personally, I'd go for stark white walls and some sort of shiny, glossy floor. Maybe a chess board as was already mentioned.

Perhaps you need to watch Night In The Museum? Or the Mummy? :P

Do a search on this page for IMPERIAL COLUMN

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/acatalo..._TERRAIN_7.html

I have two and plan on painting mine up soon and using them for a Cobra set. - Even though they are not in scale they are big enough.

Like so:

(threw the driver, Fred and trooper in there for scale purposes)

Maybe some dinosaurs skeltons as parts of museum pieces. Copy some famous paintings and put it on the walls...

There is still a lot to do like marbled or tile floors, walls and lights, but this is my start so far. Hopefully I'll be able to bring this thing to life. Here are some shots from the Los Angles Natural Museum of History I took last weekend;

I have a couple of Terra Cotta chinese warrior replicas I can send to you Frank if you want them for your museum.

If you have a Micheal's Hobby Store, a Hobby Lobby or a similar hobby store nearby, look for the model section. In or near the model section look or the Crayola section and the like. Around these areas, some of these stores carry products they call "Toobs". In essence they're plastic tubes full of an assortment of whatever the tube is labelled as. They've got Wild West, forest animals, Egyptian pieces, etc. The attached is what was in my "Toob" (write your own dirty joke here).

I found these cases while in the hobby store too.

Here's a case with something in it.

It's the Egyptian Toob From Michaels that Bayer suggested earlier. It's about $6.99 at Michaels.

What about the walls with the Pharoahs and Hyroglyphs? And that Mummy/Sarcophogus?

The walls with the HyroGlyphs I got from a PetCo or PetSmart (I can't remember) It was an aquarium decoration and I immediately saw the possibilities.

The Mummy / Sarcophogus came from an "A+ Teachers Supply Store" . It was a little expensive. About $15.00, but it was so scale accurate I wanted to get it for the Serpentor side of my stories!

General Scarlett 04-15-2008 10:29 AM

Frank, this has really become a 'How-To'.........so that's where it's been moved to....

Great job on the set up BTW.....

ToneGunsRevisited 04-15-2008 10:38 AM

Frank,

Your museum is getting very cool man. Hope you can make it even better so I can be reading the next charpter of your dio. :D

haradrel 04-15-2008 11:05 AM

Love the work on the lighting, and the mini-searchlight's on the floor.
Give us more! ;)
I figure it would be hard to actually have light inside the cubical glass displays, but if you could pull that off, the effect would be perfect (in my opinion). The way it is now is probably better then what I could have done ;)

Sonneilon 05-03-2008 06:52 PM

Wow, awesome!!!

Sgt_DP 05-04-2008 04:08 PM

I just wish I had waited until I got all this cool Indiana Jones crap! Every Action Figure comes with a relic! And I got the Indy with the Ark of the Covenant! That would look so cool in a museum!

justinm 06-07-2008 01:30 PM
