Hi
Hey everyone! I'm a new member here, I just wanted to say that you guys are incredible!!! I can't believe the quality of your customs and your photography!
I have never made a dio, and have failed at the couple customs I've made. So I'll be trying to pick brains and admiring your fine work! If I broke board protocal or there is an introduction thread I didn't see it and apologize. |
Welcome to the site. If you need anything just ask any of us.

Hello and Welcome.
Hello and Welcome to Joe Dios. :)
Where are you from and what is your name? As for the customs and the pictures. This will all come with practice, and being the helpful community that we try to be, just ask us and we'll all do our best to help you improve. We're all improving ourselves still and constantly trying to better our techniques. I'm sure you being a starter you have many questions. I would like you to take a look at the Joe Dios Rules and Etiquette, its very straight forward but I'd like to ask that if there is anything that you dont quite understand then please send me a PM and i'll gladly try to help you out. I look forward to seeing your participation in many discussions and hope you enjoy your time spent here at Joe dios. Regards Rich - United Kingdom |
All i can say is, get used to the site. Post things in the right places and do your best. That's all I can ask for (give or take, taking a look at the rules)

Welcome, "Benvenuto"!!! ;)

Thanks for all the greetings! My name is Rick, and I live in Connecticut USA. 2009 has been a pretty interesting year for me. In January, my house caught fire(upstairs neighbor's TV) and I was displaced for 3 months. Then in April my GF gave birth to our daughter Reagan.
I work in injection molding and I see so many little parts that would be "perfect" to put into dios. 1 question I had is what kinds of paint are best for figures/vehicles. I tried painting a couple figures a few years ago with Testors, and I think the paint is still wet =/ |

My three best recommendations would be Testors Model Masters Acrylics (not the enamel crap they sell, though!), Citadel brand paints from Games Workshop and Tamiya Acrylics. That's just for figures, though. I haven't tried my hand at customizing vehicles yet. |
The only advise that I can give is don't spray-paint the rubber parts of vehicles or the "bendy" parts of the figures. I always found that the cheap "Apple Barrel" brand paints work just fine from Wal-Mart or any store that sells cafts.:)
|
I use a combination of Model Masters Acryl and Appel Barrel for both vehicles and figures. Spray paint works great for vehicles as well, but you may need to sand them or use a primer depending on the surface.
Also if you're repainting newer figures it's important to wash them thoroughly with warm water and dish soap (anything with citric acid in it). This will get rid of the mold release agent that can keep paint from adhering well to plastics. |
Greetings...

we certainly are! Welcome |
Paints? Well, I'm in the minority here because I use enamels only, no wishy washy acrylics for me. For both figures and vehicles I use Humbrol or Revell semi matt enamels; they're tough, they come in a great range of military colours, and the semi matt finish matches the factory paint finish perfectly. On larger vehicles I also use matt enamel spray paints for a better finish than brushing.

I paint my Marauderinc weapons with Tamiya colors.

I've never used enamels, but if any one goes with acrylic, Games Workshop is the way to go. |
