Generaton Kill

Generation Kill is a new mini-series worth checking out. It follows the highly trained Marines of First Recon Battalion through the first 40 days of the Iraq war. Just finished watching the first three episodes. Hardcore.

Yessiree, my boys are BAD!! They showed this at Camp Pendleton a week before it came out on TV. I haven't seen it yat, but it's the buzz here in Iraq and back in the states!

Seen the first episode, love it!
Did you know that Fruity Rudy is playing himself?
There is also another dude that was there, but someone else is playing him and he has another role

This one will be up there with Band of Brothers and Over there.

To bad its only 7 episodes.

ToneGunsRevisited 08-01-2008 11:49 AM

It doesn't. The show has two technical advisers who were there and another Marine who plays himself and the whole thing was documented by an embeded reporter, so I think it's authentic as a TV show can be.

The best comparison I can think of would be the brutal action of Blackhawk Down and the accurate portrayal of Band of Brothers where they show the mistakes and the incompetent people right along side the victories and heroes.

Black Hawk Down and Band of Brothers are one of the best military shows I ever saw. Probably I'll be adding to it the Generation Kill.
Speaking of TV shows, it is a shame that Over There just got one season. I watched the 9th episode and it has solid characters and a hell of a good action scenes. Some drama too, but who can run from that?

Not to mention, some of the original Marines who were written about got in trouble for speaking out about the incompentence in their command. Now I REALLY wanna see this!!!

The 1st episode didn't get me excited, but maybe it is HBO. They have to make an introduction of all the bunch. I'll give it a chance for the 2nd. I hope there is some action.

And Frank, did someone mention that you Marines looks all the same? Huahuahuahuahua!

I have seen every episode so far and love it, I read the book 2 years ago and have been really looking forward to this series. So far it is living up to the book and the hype. definitly worth watching, but I suggest you read the book for the real perspective. Its a great book.

I watched episode one last night. Man, how do you guys keep up and understand what is being said? I understand from 17 years in the military, but keeping up with the military lingo if I wasn't a Marine would drive me bananas. I tried to watch it as if I didn't understand the military and I was like...DAMN! That is a LOT to take in!

But Watching it from a Military Veteran standpoint, MY God, that crap is funny....and although I doubt all if it is 100% true or 100% accurate, it was very realistic! I'd say 75% to 85% worth was right on the money! I was cracking up when they had to have the reporter go to the PX and buy them batteries because they didn't have enough for their NVG's (Night Vision Goggles). Stuff like that DOES happen. And the guy marching around like Hitler behind the Sergeant Major showing off his short mustache had me rolling! LET A SERGEANT MAJOR IN THE MARINES SEE YOU DOING THAT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS! But it was funny!!

If you guys are watching it and you don't understand an acronym or something, don't be afraid to ask. The one that they kept coming up was LOD, it means Line Of Departure, where you leave friendly line and are now in enemy territory (or "Indian Country" as we say).

It's true. Troops need big numbers on their uniforms like football players so we can pick them out. (Sniper spotter: "Shoot the guy with the number 1, he must be important.") That's why I find war movies improve each time you watch them, it gets easier to recognize who's who.

I've seen a picture of him, but now I definitely have no idea what you're talking about.

Have you had a chance to see the second episode? Curious if you like it more once the action kicked in.

It is heating up. I like more action that what was shown, but the action we get is better than nothing. it wasn't a Rambo 4, but it goes :).

ToneGunsRevisited 08-12-2008 06:37 PM

Hey, did someone watch Paragraph 78?

troopsofdoom 08-13-2008 05:23 PM

Question for Frank:

Why are Charms tadoo?

I just watched episode five and I don't think they're gonna explain it.
