Anyone know How to Take apart a Joe with a rusty screw
Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about taking apart a 3 3/4 Joe with a rusty screw??? It's an old Joe fig that has been heavily played with from when I was a kid, I tried to unscrew him but the screw started to strip :( :eek: so I decide to stop and ask my Good Ol' Joe Dio Buddies for some tips!!! :D |
WD40 it.........you know, using the red 'straw' thingie.......let it soak in......

depends on how bad it was striping i have done this i put a small tab of crazy glue on a screwdriver and then insert it let the glue harden and then go about taking it out it's worked for me on an 82 breaker that the screw was really gone on

if these fail and you can get no grip whatsoever, you will have to take a drill and drill it out. use the smallest you can find, usually once you get the head off it will come apart and you can take pliers and remove the rest.

I had to resort to a dremmel on an 86 viper I got and just drilled right in the center of ther screw until it was seperated and then I just used some pliers to unscrew the part in the chest piece.

Successful operation
I've performed the drill operation probably a hundred times. It worked every time. Just take it slow and easy.
On a side note I was able to get the old screw out of my old Zandar and Zarana figures but they were glued together at the factory. I'm guessing by whatever they used for the color change effect. Since I'm reluctant to just rip them apart, I could never get them separated. |
I actually disagree here.
Ive used the drill method several times, and more often than not, its been a disaster. My favourite method- which almost always works- is to use a pair of pliers to give extra torque. You use the screwdriver as normal, putting all the pressure downwards, then use the pliers to unscrew. Either alone, or with wd40 this has always worked for me. |
The only reason I had to drill was because the screw was completely stripped, and the majority of the time I do what Bigtattoo suggested.

yeah, so do i, but as you said when the screw is totally stripped you have no other choice. i have never messed up a figure doing the drill method. i guess it all depends on how slow you take it, how steady your hand is and some luck. try everything else first, but if nothing works, which a lot of the time the screw is to far gone, then you have to resort to the drill.

The drill method worked only once for me, on the first time I tried it.
I tried it twice afterwards and I got the figure open, but ruined the torso. |
Hi Guys I wanted to let you know how I made out, I tried each of your suggestions during the week and the one that finally worked for me in this case was the drill!!! :) I think if the screw wasn't so rusty & weak the other methods would have worked too!!! :) I want to thank everyone again for they're comments & Suggestions!!! :D I really appreciate it!!! :D
