2007 Convention Preview!!
Box art & first figures are available for viewing over at Master Collector
http://www.mastercollector.com/neat.../RAHpreview.cfm These female troopers make me DROOOOOL  |
I've said already..
I've said already I aint that fussed about the female troopers.. I'll wait before seeing more before deciding what to do about them. :o
|
I'm starting to save my pennies NOW for this set! Holy cow those look SWEEET as all get out! Shane WANTY!
|
I don't get why they're not wearing blue like the ones on the cartoon. They're cool and all, but would've been so much cooler if they matched their male counterparts.
|
OH MY GAWD! Those are so rad!!!
|
They Look AWESOME!!! :) I wonder how much they're going to cost??? :)
|
They do look pretty cool I have to say. Way too much money for me to spend myself, but always nice to get a peek at the convention sets. Anyone else notice the heads on these though? Correct me if I'm mistaken, but are those the same as the unmasked CG? They look out of place on the female troopers, seeing as they were intedned to be men. Just an observation.
|
Awesome...just awesome. I'd better start saving my hard-earned now! This set is a must. :D
|
The slutty exposed back just ruins it for me. I see no reason to have gone with this.
The World War 2 weapons don't feel right. Fortunately, these sets seem to have a bit of popularity, so hopefully the selling of leftover Joes on ebay will saturate the market enough that I can get the ones I want cheap and easy. :p :p :p :D :D :D |
Having women in the standard Cobra Trooper blue uniform would have been my ideal, especially since they've sculpted new torsos, but the colour scheme here does actually look great unto itself IMO. I have to agree that the exposed backs are ridiculous, though.
I was sold on this set just from the list of Joe characters but now the box art is done and these figure pics are appearing I think I'm definitely going to have to see if there's anyone who can pick me up a set! |

Its an unconfirmed rumour at present, but supposedly MC and Hasbro are collaberating to release these figs as a Blueshirt 6-pack just prior to Christmas. I have to disagree, I like the back. MC have done a great job with these. |
These Are Very Cool The Posibilties Are Endless And If What Big Tattoo Says Happens Even Better :d :d :d

I can see the dio stories now... Cobra recruits Victoria Secret models. |
Quote:
Hehe......well, THAT holds no appeal for me whatsoever............ I wouldn't mind some Viper Chicks with the 'old school' mold......or even that cool Cobra operative that Lord Raven customized.........Now those I could really dig!!! |
Update!!!
Latest pic features Rock'n'Roll in Winter Camo
|
How much does it cost to get the con set at the convention?
|
Quote:
Not sure, $250 i think, the mastercollector site would have more info on that **UPDATE** Newly posted pics of Clutch & Female Doc!! I might just get this set cuz of this... |
Female Troopers: Too Baroness in coloration and costume. Why sculpt a new torso that just seems like an existing character. Head sculpts are fine. No black haired or dark skinned females, which is kind of a shame, as there are 6 troopers, so there were 3 more variants they could've made. Which at more than $15 a figure, isn't too much to ask.
The debate about the open back, all I care to say is someone at hasbro likes the crossed lace-up look...check out unreleased Munitia's calves. Cobra trooper legs are tad mannish. Hopefully that waist works with them, and there's no new bad-fitting parts fiasco. Using old WW2 German weapons...which were in storage at a US army base...okay... Female Officer: Lousy codename for a named character. Such characters never amount to squat (aside from Cobra Commander "Enemy Leader"), just ask Neo Viper Commander and CLAWS Commander. Another Cobra from Australia? Not very inspired, as Bludd and Dreadnoks hailing from or near there, plus some Operation MOTH Cobras. (more interesting that the USA, though) She's got red hair...Scarlett's evil twin? :p Rock'n Roll: All Stalker 1989 body...that's boring. An okay figure...worth about $5 to me. If only that was the price. Rn'R's using an old .30 caliber or is that .50 caliber from Sgt. Savage. Doc: Decent, if a little bland. (I can see them reusing the head sculpt for a new character) Why did they go the "Doc's neice" route? Why not daughter? Why the awkward codename? Looks like they added that medicine symbol to Lady Jaye's torso...interesting extra expense. A helmet would've been nice. Also she's a pacifist...but Lady Jaye's mold has a partially concealed pistol on her right ankle, which is still there. Clutch: Nice explaining the stupid Double-Clutch name away. Better than the comic 3 pack...the logo helps sell the otherwise iffy vest. The half-painted boots look bad. I'm not a fan of creating boots that aren't there (Lamprey repaints) or ignoring ones that are. A guy who still calls women "chicks" fighting an all-female Cobra force...pretty amusing. If they actually have the Mauler mold...I'm really gonna be annoyed. Hasbro phoned in so many RAH repaints, and Master Collector finds good stuff like the Ferret and Armadillo from last year. If the CAT 2 could've been a Mauler.... But that's life. |
Man, 250 bucks are to much expensive for me. I'll have to wait to buy that Clutch on eBay.
|
This set is looking better and better! ;)
|
It would've been nice to get a different mold for the commander from the other girls, but they still look rather cool. Its nice to see that we'll get a female Doc character too, I didn't think I'd ever see one of those.
|
Great versions of old characters
I love these new versions of Zap and Clutch. These are both great figures.
|
I LOVE the Joes so far -- they were the main draw to the set when I read the character list on the brochure and they're not disappointing me! "Lt. Claymoore" tonight, right? The Cobra from the front of the box art with the Ice-Cream Soldier body... I'm disappointed that it's not actually a new version of Claymore the Joe but hopefully he'll be a cool new bad guy character.
I have to say I'm more excited about this set than I am the whole 25th Anniversary line. Can't wait to see what any additional 2- or 3- figure sets might include, as well as the vehicles! |
Lt. Claymoooooore :p is kinda weak. Why? Because he looks like a figure than any of us could make by putting Balrog's head on Shock Viper v1's body. For the money, these figures should look more creative than that.
But I suspect they blew their budget on the new parts for the ladies, as looking at the figures they all use recently utilized molds, all cleaned up and ready to go. The exception, thus far, is Balrog's head mold. Spring-action launchers....ick...why? It's odd that the Night Stalker officer is a Captain, why Claymoore is just a 1st Lieutenant, since he's sort of an old character (from Sunbow's THE TRAITOR). Also, aren't Shock Vipers officially just flame throwers? Kinda of an odd unit to have its own leader. I'd see them as mixed in with other heavy weapons troopers, not as a seperate entity. |
Quote:
But I bet Larry Hama would be proud of the file name-- Clayton Moore is right up there with Skip A. Stone and Alvin Pine, among others. |
I'm liking EVERYTHING except 'Clay Moore'. I like those sexy backless femme-troopers,girl-Doc.....and the Old-School Joes!Yay! :p
|
Grunt is up and pretty so-so. Apparently uses Comic pack Hawk head, the first one, I think, which is tiny.
Snow Job body...well, the Snow Job body they've been using with those stupid rolled up sleeves. Odd they dug up that Sky Patrol rifle. Somebody elsewhere said the stone blizzard camo makes them look like painters, yeah...it's not the greatest. |
Secondary Market
I really love some of these figures, but the convention sets are always pricey. I would like to just buy the four old school Joes. What do you guys think are the odds of seeing these figures posted on ebay by those guys who sell bulk figures. Are they manufacturing these in China like all the other figures? Or, because its such a small run do they just do it here in the States?
|
I like the sets, but $250 is to much. I will pick up DOC and Clutch if i pick up any. I do like the female cobra figures, picking one or two of those would be cool.
|
This set looks so great, but there is no way I could ever afford it. If I'm lucky I might be able to pick up a few figures on ebay. :(
|

Alvin Pine I remember- although its not hard to work out who it is. Is Skip A. Stone Cutter? Thats bad. I like the original three 'Noks names- Tom, Dick and Harry, and Winken, Blinken and Nod |
Quote:
Yup, Skip A. Stone is none other than Cutter. And yes, the original Dreadnoks had some great filenames too. |
I'm still really liking this set but my one gripe has to be the lack of helmets. Grunt gets one but not Zap? And Flash being helmet-less is terrible; apart from that I think it's a great update of the character. But when did we ever see Flash in action without a helmet & visor? Giving him comic pack Grunt's head when Grunt is in the set with Hawk's head is already unnecessarily complicated and now we can't even cover it up...
Fingers crossed that Sparks has absolutely nothing to complain about, since there's no alternative version of him to get! |
Why they didn't left a Flash like this one came out in a single card?
|
Quote:
Unfortunately Sparks is pretty well the weakest figure in the set. The colours just don't look right (but at least he got a helmet)! This set though is great, and a must-buy. :D (Heck, it puts the 25th anniversary stuff to shame!! ;) ) |
Quote:
I agree that the colours are off- his legs would have looked far better in olive drab- but I like this one. It could have been better, but I wouldnt say he's teh weakest. That is Rock n Roll. In fact, imo, he's the best of the Joes |
I'm liking Sparks.Really-the only figure I'm not liking is "Clay Moore".The others rock. :D
|
Sparks
Yeah, I gotta say I like the Sparks figure. I think it looks good. Why didn't Hasbro try selling this kind of stuff. Surely it would have done better than the re-tread DTC figures we got. This set is a good example of whats been wrong with Hasbro the last few years. Its got some great ideas and some great figures, but also some really lame ones (Claymore). And there are some glaring details (heads and helmets) that hurt otherwise great figures.
