great link! 1) Adrienne Palicki - BABE - too bad Wonder Woman the tv show got cancelled before it even aired. She was looking sweet in them thar hotpants! Looking 4ward to seeing her as Lady Jaye. 2) Killer Whale, Water Mocassin - still a nice looking vessel. 3) Jon Chu - like on one of roguetiger's posts, director who's a fan of GI Joe, hopefully he'll do good by it. I wasn't completely disappointed by the first one, I was just happy a live action movie got made and I was grateful for Rachel Nichols - BABE - as Scarlett. 4) I was SOOO getting my Yo Joe until on the 2nd clip at 1:10 they JUST HAD TO MENTION THE BEEBS! I went from 12midnight to 6:30 in my pants in like half a second. Someone should wreak "Havoc" on that little "Mouse". I borrowed your format, 80's Child, hope you don't mind... :) |

That sucks, too bad more CGI would be bad for the crew and it would cost jobs. |

Yeah- I was watching the DVD "extras" of ROC and Steven Sommers basically admitted that once he got the job, THEN he went and read some back-comics and watched some of the old cartoons. COME ON MAN, you can't hand the reigns of something so steeped in established cannon and fandom to some clueless newbie! So, if Chu really is a fan of Joe, there should be nowhere to go but up. Nah, I don't mind 218 - if it works 4 U too, that's cool with me. :) |

The guy who wrote the Resolute cartoons did the EXACT same thing.. he NEVER read or had GI Joe figures... and that story was a lot better than the movie was....story wise... |

For Resolute, the producer's intention was to bring Warren Ellis aboard precisely BECAUSE he was outside of Gi Joe world; a fresh look. |
You use the word "admitted" as if Sommers had this big secret that he hadn't been a fan of ARAH. At least he did say that his familiarity with GI JOE had been the 12 inch soldier dolls. I don't think there's anything wrong with not having been a fan beforehand. It all depends on how they approach the material in the present. Being too much of a fan can sometimes make it difficult to really be dynamic with the material, either as a writer or director.

The Rise Of Cobra Cobra was not part of the 12 inch lore. Let me officially change "admitted" to bragged. My point - producers should have chosen better director - he made a decent action movie, but it wasn't REALLY the G.I. JOE a LOT of fans were hoping for. I agree though that you don't want to have TOO fanatical of a fan making the movie, because we all don't like the same aspects of the franchise equally. ROC wasn't horrible, but it could have been a lot better & if the director knew more of the KEY points of the franchise of ARAH, and more fans would have been pleased with outcome. But this has been debated to death already on the boards. Bottom line - it use to be politics & religion, now it seems to be politics, religion, and Rise Of Cobra. This is precisely why I DON'T want them to make a MOTU live action movie after all (1987 doesn't count), because there's no way they could make one that would satisfy all the long-invested fans - like Lincoln said. |
