You hit a long streak of good ones there. I like Sahara because of the against all odds, never say die attitude. It's been a long while since I saw Sergeant York and some of these others...

Full Metal Jacket (watched the first part every day for six weeks before I went to boot camp)
Blackhawk Down (I can relate, I was there. Lots of action)
We Were Soldiers (One of the best I've seen)
Enemies at the Gates (there's dispute about how accurate the movie is, but it's just plain awesome)
Heartbreak Ridge (Not the best, but Clint's Gunny Highway is an awesome character)
Star Wars (one of the classics. It has War in the name)
Saving Private Ryan (just the opening scene alone is worth it)
Flags of Our Fathers (not a whole lot of action, but still really good)
Behind Enemy Lines (not a true story, but still a good one)
The D.I. (with Jack Webb, an oldie but a goodie)
WWII in HD (not a feature movie per se, but worth watching on History Channel)

Best war movies

Best quote from Dogs of War, "Your're Late."

Two more for the growing list of great war movies -

Bravo Two Zero - stars Sean Bean. "This is the true story of the most highly decorated British patrol since the Boer war: an eight man SAS team inserted behind Iraqi lines during the Gulf War in January 1991."

The Beast of War "During the war in Afghanistan a Soviet tank crew commanded by a tyrannical officer find themselves lost and in a struggle against a band of Mujahadeen guerrillas in the mountains."

Great movies!

Is it odd that I've seen all of these movies numerous times???? :p

I want to add 2 of my favorites:

Kelly's Heroes(1970)
The Eagle Has Landed (1976)

I would have listed Where Eagles Dare as well....BUT THE NAME OF THIS THREAD SAID "MOVIE"....i didn't want to seem greedy :D When i was a little kid, my father and i would count how many people get killed by Clint Eastwood. They were directed by the same gent, I believe. Did i mention that these are correct and the rest of you are wrong...except Marcos(TPAMMT!)

P.S.=Inglorious Basterds is da coolest too!

Just a few off the top of my mind.

Being a history buff I love classic movies, and love the old war films. I do watch documentaries once a year like Victory at Sea, and even Vietnam, a History. For films it's gotta be the old stuff. Take Sahara, for example, it's gritty, or a few weeks ago on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) the movie "The Seven Graves".

How about non-WWII films? "The Four Feathers" (1939?) come to mind, or some of those about the French Foreign Legion. Lots of great stuff!

Deathy...Tora, Tora, Tora has some of the best effects i have ever seen(prop flying across tarmac!) The seen where the B-17 crew has to take off immediately after landing still makes me tense every time.
