Strangest thing you have seen in a store?

I was in a TRU the other day and I saw they had some of the new comic Two packs. I heard how everyone was going ga-ga over the comic two pack Fred/Crimson guard that came with the scarface trooper. I looked at the package and noticed the Crimsons guard had a Neo Viper commander head on him.

"How Cheesy" I thought. I could have sworn they had a head and a helmet. So I looked at the bottom of the package and ...nothing. Then my wife noticed that in the bubble packaging there were two holes where there should have been a helmet and backpack. She reach down to the bottom of the display where there was a complete one and showed me. It didn't astound me that someone would steal his head and helmet, but to put on a head from a Neo Viper Commander? WTF? Now, here's TRU trying to sell this as a complete set, and because some dillweed went and swapped heads, it will probably get sold to some poor unsuspecting kid.

I'm thinking maybe someone bought this, took it home and did that to use the head/helmet on their 25th single pack CG and brought the doctored one back. But why not just pop the 25th CG head on? Doesn't it fit in the bubble pack? Has anyone else seen anything this strange?

GoCards 03-30-2008 10:03 AM

Yeah, I've seen that done to Star Wars figures lately. People swapping older figures in newer packages. Like you said, some poor kid will buy it thinking they got a variation. It sucks and it's just plain wrong.

Sonneilon 03-30-2008 06:41 PM

The JBL is having all sorts of sightings of this sort of things now. Most people want the DOC sticker but are fooling around with the figures too.

gogorobo 03-30-2008 07:30 PM

i saw someone on ebay trying to sell a swapped out pack saying it was ultra rare  i feel sorry for the person who buys this without knowing any better

General Scarlett 03-30-2008 07:52 PM

The levels of assininity that some people display is disgusting.......but I'm not that shocked by it anymore.......I deal with it far too often.

yorktownjoe 03-30-2008 08:14 PM

Well Outrider and other non-25th fans will enjoy these I think. I think if the VAMP is roomy enough for 25th, then ARAH should be able to see through the window. I love the my original VAMP, but it is hard for Clutch to see through the window...

Unfortunately behaviour like this is all too common now. It is a sad sign of the times, I'm afraid. :(

vader9900 03-31-2008 12:02 AM

This is nothing new, when the 2004 VOTC Stormtroopers came out, there were tons of them returned with the POTF Stormtrooper in there. I was at the DOLLAR Store & found several single pack figures with holes poked through the back & all the accessories removed, on $1 figures! I am suprised you all aren't finding all kinds of VvV figures in 25th packaging. Maybe with the cost of gas it is just cheaper now to buy the figure & not make a 2nd trip to scam the next guy.

silencer 04-01-2008 02:42 AM

I bought a potj snowspeeder when they came out several years ago and someone had switched the dead dak in the back for the first release of biggs. I took it back and got a replacement, ...weird and sad that someone would do this.

i havent actually voted yet, but as i was going through the process early this morning it was letting me pick more then one. i think when/if we all vote, we should try to get a character we know we wont be getting any others of. we know well still have tons of snake eyes, storm shadows, cobra commanders and dukes. we have a few hawks, there is already confirmed to fix flint with gloves, were supposed to get another rock n roll. i say lets vote on characters like Beachhead, Zartan, Sgt. Stalker, Gung-Ho, Sgt. Flash, Spirit Iron-Knife or Major Bludd.

lehsreh 04-15-2008 10:10 AM

ok, i just did it. you are allowed 10 votes.

Stormer 04-15-2008 01:55 PM

So basically Hasbro is saying they're going to release a bunch more repaints, but dressing it up to present them as something fans want...?

I find it hilarious that they're doing a commemorative series for a commemorative series, already, not to mention you can vote for figures that haven't even been seen let alone released!

My thoughts exactly. Hasbro has some real "geniuses"in charge of the Joe line right now  . Lets see old school again please! :(

KamikazeGrrl 04-15-2008 04:16 PM

I do too, but unfortunately, distribution is spotty at best and non-existant for the most part. Hell, we're up to wave what? And I have yet to see some of the figures at all and most of the ones I do see are 1-2 of the same in every store. Nuthin but Peg Warmers from San Diego to Victorville! Gotta love Hasbro!

As for Vehicles, I have yet to see ANY in the stores and they're already "Out of Stock" on HTS. I read a thread on JBL about how TRU is trying to purposely NOT cater to collectors....All I can say is....Job well done, guys! You, Taget and Walmart have effectively destroyed my love of collecting!

Guess it's back to paying top dollar for ARAH Molds from Master Collector!

And what the heck is this?;

http://www.hasbrotoyshop.com/Produc...O&ID=21694&PG=1

$19.99 a piece for a figure, a DVD and a PIECE of a toy? So If I want the WHOLE Mass Device or the Whole Weather Dominator, I have to pay $100.00 and end up with 5 DVD's I don't want and 4 Action figures I wouldn't pay a dime for! Errrrggg!!

Sonneilon 04-15-2008 05:24 PM

There's been talk of doing a Hall of Heroes thing for a few years now. But yeah, I'm guessing these will just be repackaged figures in new packaging. Star Wars does the same thing, y'know.

Well, the Mass Device was... at least it looks to scale now. All the shots i had seen leading up to the cartoon pack... I thought you got the whole thing. THey are so trying to take advantage of the collector market.

Self-Modifier 04-15-2008 06:00 PM

I'm pretty sure it was announced back at Toy Fair that the MASS Device would be coming in five pieces. A lot of people seemed to miss that little bit of info though... Doesn't bother me yet, because there's enough stuff in the first two sets to get me excited. I just hope the final three sets are as impressive.

Flint 04-15-2008 07:59 PM

Just put my two cents in the Vote!!!:) Can't wait to see who the Top 10 are!!! :D

rds13601 04-15-2008 08:39 PM

More 25th

At GI Joe.com you can see, General hawk with leather jacket and helmet, Bazooka, Barbecue, Black Storm Shadow, Bat and Snow Serpent. They run about 7 bucks and says it'll be out soon. We'll see. What do you think?

Sonneilon 04-15-2008 08:48 PM

All that info is in there somewhere... Around the last pages

snakeshadow 04-15-2008 11:22 PM

I just made my picks. I too went with the less seen figures. I think there has to be on factory out there just soley deicated to mass producing Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow figs... so Bazooka and Barbeque got a vote and of course my favorite Cobra trop the EEl got a nod. Hope to see the results!
P.S. Did anyone else linger around on the site long enough to play the Do you know your GI Joe? It was pretty funny. I got a nine out of ten, couldn't for the life of me remember which Drednock was afraid of spiders :o

Heh heh, I happily vote for none of 'em because they are all JUNK. ;) :D

Stormer 04-16-2008 04:15 AM

Looking again at the figures who have a "?" instead of a head shot (and wouldn't that make Presidential elections more fun?) -- one of them is listed as "Specialist Trakker."

Now; it's possible that this is a misprint and they're doing Tracker, but he's not exactly a fan-favourite in the history of the line. Another thing is the "Specialist" prefix -- that's new. Why not "Sergeant" or "Agent" or use his codename in the middle of his real name?

The line is all about 80s nostalgia, and back in the 80s there WAS a cartoon & toy character called Trakker -- Matt Trakker, in the MASK toyline. MASK was made by Kenner, and Kenner was bought by Hasbro in the mid-90s...

I did some 'poking around' last night.........TONS of fun stuff and lots of nostalgia on the site!!!

YO JOE!!

General Scarlett 04-16-2008 05:43 AM

We're getting a bit bogged down with threads regarding the 25th line...........

Rambo 04-16-2008 07:47 PM

No ARAH, no vote... :(

Lava Boss 04-20-2008 01:42 PM

This whole MATT TRAKKER business has got to be the goofiest assumption made by fans ever. Ever occur to anyone they spelled TRACKER's name "Trakker" for copyright reasons, too?

Really, why on Earth would they shoehorn in a character from a whole seperate toyline? Does Hasbro even own those character or does Dic (who made the cartoon)?

Also, how can they expect people to vote on all those unseen future releases.

Plus you have Cobra Commander helmet vs. Cobra Commander striped helmet. Tough decision there. I'm gonna vote for both, plus Hooded CC and armor CC. :p

There are a few reasons why people have made this assumption. Yes, Hasbro does own MASK, since they bought Kenner about ten years ago. Also, when the wave including "Trakker" was found in Wal-Mart computers, the character was listed as "Mask." Since then, that wave was put on this list, but the character called "Mask" was replaced with "Trakker." I was skeptical at first too, till I read all this info. Now, the more I think about it, the more sense it makes.

Lava Boss 04-20-2008 08:31 PM

Must've missed or forgotten that MASK listing part. Not reading all the gossip these days.

Got that theme song in my head. "TRAKKER'S GONNA LEAD THE MISSION, BECAUSE...he's the white blonde guy and this is the 1980's" Okay, maybe I misremembered part of the song. :p

Stormer 04-22-2008 10:51 AM

Considering they've done Action Man and Sgt. Slaughter before, Matt Trakker wouldn't surprise me at all.

If it IS Tracker with a typo, I still have the questions 1) Why the new "Specialist" prefix instead of all the other ways they've got around trademark issues before; 2) A misspelling on a Wal-Mart computer is one thing, but on Hasbro's own GI Joe website? And finally, 3) Why the hell would they be doing Tracker of all Joes at this point...!?

Question: 25th at Rite Aid?

So I just got home from Rite Aid pharmacy (stocking up on alcohol for the weekend) and I saw something interesting. At my local Rite Aid, they keep there toys in the aisle in front of the back one containing the "good stuff". So I always walk through through and browse on my way back. But today when I walked through there was a child in there holding 2 of the 1 wave 25ths begging his mom to buy them. Unfortunately she conceeded and gave into the brat. I am not a huge fan of them, but wave 1 is already fetching a nice profit on ebay and SE has good accesories, so I'll seize an opportunity when I see it. Well anyway I went back in a few mins, and could not find a peg or label for the joes, they had lots of hasbro junk like starwars etc, and even some older marvel legends, but no more joes. I searched hiss tank and other sites but cannot find a record for rite aid selling these yet. Does anybody know if rite aid will be getting older 25th stuff? or could this be a werid return of merchandise or in a box shipped with starwars stuff? any answer is insightful and any who, I guess keep your eyes open if your a 25th lover or like to sell crap. cheers-
