Weapons touch-up paint question

A loooooong time ago, I did some customizing of figures, with Games Workshop Camo Green paint : http://www.joedios.com/dioramas/showimage.php?i=21143 . Now I want to add some paint details to some Marauder Inc weapons, f.i. green for the RPG grenades and brown to the woodwork of AK-47's, like this : http://www.joedios.com/dioramas/showimage.php?i=18505 and this : http://www.joedios.com/dioramas/showimage.php?i=16388 .

Many people have already done this, so my question to those people is : which particular version of brown did you use for the wooden details ? (And did you like the result or would you recommend another color ?)

I used a mix of Tamiya brown x-9 and a lucid Tamiya brown (I cannot remember the code, I finished it a long time ago).

I use Testors Model Masters. Burnt Umber for the base coat, then a black wash, finish it up with a very light dry brush of Flat Tan.

what he said! even though i have been using the tamiya paints now and they work alot better! i still like the model masters testors but mine seem to dry up or the tops get stuck and it gets gooey! probably since i dont customize all the time! i think it doesnt matter what colors you use! i like making my own colors! a little orange and some blue and bam a new brown! i think the important part is on the painting and the sealing of what ever you painted! cheers! Specifically with Maruader weapons, I have found that it is one of the better times to use enamel paints as opposed to acrylics. No need for sealing, chip resistant.

There are some added steps like you need to stir with a stick the paint. You may consider diluting some of the paint with Enamel thinner. You also need the thinner to clean up the brushes or undo any mistakes, than you finally can clean with soap and water.
