View Full Version : Sex scenes on JoeDios
Hammerfel

I posted this to the closed thread, but I wanted to also post it here for community contribution.
To the photo in question, it was too suggestive for my tastes, especially as a stand-alone shot. I'm not opposed to sexy scenes in dio stories, as long as they further the plot, like the Scarlett / Helix shot linked above contributed to that story.
Think of it this way. When you see a one-shot photo of a man behind a bent over woman, simulating sex, that's just a titillating photo meant to get a reaction out of the viewer. It akin to soft-core porn. When you watch a movie, and the same scene takes pace between lovers, it (hopefully) enriches the story and develops the characters. Heck, even I have a "sex scene (http://www.hammerfel.com/dios/disciple/#18) " in one of my dios, but it develops my character of Kamakura have "the ear that sees" and involves known lovers, Lady Jaye and Flint.
Policy-wise, use your best judgment to enhance and protect JoeDios reputation for quality content. If you need to have a sex scene in your dio story, that's fine with me, but pick a less controversial frame for your JoeDios post that links to the story, because that image shows up on our front page, and represents JoeDios.
If you want to do soft-core porn shots that aren't part of a story, keep it to Flickr and link to it from a forum thread if you like (don't show the image in the thread, just the link, please).
Now, please give me feedback on this policy. Is this in line with what you want out of JoeDios? This site doesn't just belong to me. It belongs to everyone who contributes. YO JOE! :)

There's a difference between 'sex' and 'sexy'.
'Sex' is not something that needs to be public on a site like this. As you know 'Fel, the BSA is very strict on these matters. I know as well, since I too am a VERY active member of the BSA, who is 6 months from having my 17yo become an Eagle Scout. Therefore, keeping 'sex' type shots out of this site would be in the best interest of EVERYONE. Its crude, and this site has never been about crudeness. Maybe some questionable personal tastes, but not smut.
Something 'sexy' (like the 3 links that were referenced) are borderline (especially with the 'Helix/Scarlett' one-which I personally do NOT appreciate). As for the Clutch one, that's the established character's persona, and honestly it wasn't offensive (its not like his hand was up her skirt). The 'Baroness/Raptor' one, well, that could be one of those 'borderline' shots, simply for the fact that Anastasia has her legs wrapped around his waist.
But in the end, none of these was a blatant attempt at a 'sex' scene. Fireflyed's picture was. Plain and simple. And whether he admits it or not, he *knows* that it was.
I've seen 'sexy' themed shots (i.e.-kissing, etc.) grace the photo section of this site, hell, I've even snapped a few myself and posted them. But the difference was that it was done in good taste and with respect. Not only to myself and my fellow members, but to the characters themselves. Yes, that's right. They deserve respect as well, otherwise, why bother with something so small?? There are companies that can accommodate people with fetish penchants.
This site is meant to be a place that revels in the glory of 'G.I. JOE', not 'Mr. Lucky's Gentleman's Club'.
As you've stated, if someone feels the need to embellish levels of voyeurism, then find someplace that caters to that and if you want people to view it, give them a link with an innocuous picture to lead them there. But don't use JoeDios as a portal to 'get your rocks off' by posing plastic army figures in compromising *adult* situations that would make your mother blush.

Speaking solely on censorship, I don't think photos should be deleted unless they're not toy related or if they are being used to be malicious to a real person. It seems kind of ridiculous to delete a photo of drinking and dancing when there are constantly photos being posted of people being killed. And sex? Come on people, they're fully clothed toys, they can't have sex. Maybe someone can imply it but it takes the viewer to imagine it. I know somebody will say that JoeDios can't have "sexy" shots because of younger viewers but how can you tell them sex is bad but killing is acceptable?
What's going to be censored next? These are toys, don't take them so seriously. :D

it's with a sense of great pride that I remove my picture of Helix and Scarlett. if I can inspire great controversy over a kiss then I truly am a great dio artist and have touched all of you :)
but before any one starts using my picture as a shield for their own. I asked in the comments section WHEN I POSTED IT that if it was offensive in any way that the admins remove it.
I follow the rules... we don't pay for this site gang the owner does and as far as I'm concerned we should be grateful that someone is allowing us a place to share our work.
if someone violates the rules multiple times they get banned.
however... It was said that some thought they already banned

that was a little disturbing. :)

I prolly got you mixed up with someone else that I was arguing with a few months ago. Something about the difference between "These are just pictures" and that some people consider what we do "pieces of art". But anyway, back to the topic at hand.

I'm not sure that's what anyone wanted, but whatever.
Hammerfel, the rule now seems fair enough. But this was NOT in place when FF was banned, additionally, many other members have posted the same thing or WORSE and got off free. Scarlet, I think you weren't actively coming here when some other photos depicting sex showed up. Scratch that, I've seen photos depicting BONDAGE on here and no one got banned.
Doing some digging, I've seen that other people have been given second (and third, and fourth) chances here for other things. Why not give FF a second chance, but explain to him that shots like his last stay at Flikr? Just give him another chance, he's a good guy.
Sonneilon, I think in past threads about this you've been condescending in your tone, but I'm sure some of us have given you a hard time and I'm sorry for that. All I ask is that you give FF one more chance, especially now that this rule is in place.

Nate, that was the most logical and cool response to this issue. I appreciate how receptive you are to an element that is part of life. The fact that you allow a link is appreciated. Maybe we could have a little more humorous approach to editing or deleting scenes like "Chocolate City". Most of us are adults and probably go on the defense about our pics, so usually, a humorous approach to enforcement is more easily digested. I have no idea how the issue was approached, I am just saying in general, people are more receptive to reprimand with a grain of humor thrown in.
For the record, I think Graham is the best moderator and face of the site. I don't kiss ass, I usually have my cousin MoMo kick it for me :p I would never volunteer to be the MOD here and I think it takes commitment to the site to do it. In the end, we all, including myself, can't be total self editors and hopefully when we make a mistake, we don't react too defensively, and conversely, we aren't admonished too severely. I thank you, Nate, for this site and I hope we can keep the talent here.

I think that a lot of us here are adult, but G.I.JOE are toys.
I agree with Hammerfel that we'd not post here erotic-soft porn, etc. themed pictures. We'd respect who (probably little guys too) look at our pics and dioramas.
It is not moralism, but logic from clever and smart guys and girls as we are.
I hope Fireflyed return here. He deserve a last chance.
N.J.
My dear Dancontrino: do not worry, I'll try to minimize my "nice work" comments.
Sometimes I have no time for long comments, but I look at every pictures, reviews, files, collections and dioramas on this loved site that I consider as a second home. I already do not know english language very well.

I'm not going to got back and forth publicly-its redundant and ridiculous. Everyone is going to post their thoughts and opinions. But not everyone has to agree with them. That's one of the points of a public forum. Most people would do well to remember the clearly stated site rules and regulations regarding interaction between members and the matter of respect for said thoughts/opinions.
I will address the BSA question though.
Simply put, this site is owned by Hammerfel. His son is a member of the BSA. If someone came across his site and saw something untoward and lodged a sexual complaint, there would be a great deal of aggravation that came down on the site owner, up to and possibly including fines and/or jail time. In turn that would force him to close the site altogether. I suppose that would end all this drama once and for all wouldn't it??
The BSA is geared toward teaching moral and ethical treatment of one's self and through that, everyone else. In layman's terms, using good common sense at all times. Additionally, the military looks to the BSA to work toward new recruits (much the same way they do with HS Marching Bands and the like), to continue to fill the ranks of the military. Guns, explosions and violence are 'the norm' in the military-gratuitous sexual innuendo isn't, at least not publicly.
That's the whole point I'm making. Use some common sense and don't attempt to be asinine just to 'win friends and be cool'. Watching the Joes blow up a Cobra base is a whole lot different than watching the figures bump 'n grind, clothed or otherwise.
And its not about 'seeing things that aren't really there'. Its about knowing the difference between what's right and wrong. Obviously the picture was wrong (and the last in a long line of infractions by the member, according to the Admin staff). As such, the actions determined the outcome. Its no one else's business what transpired between Cory and the staff.

I've told you all, you don't know most of the story. FF has HAD chances and reprimands.
You say the point is missed in that certain other questionable pictures haven't led to banning or whatever. Well, it takes formal complaints for me to address the poster of them. Otherwise, me and/or Hammerfel would have handled them.
Some might say it's a condascending tone. I feel it's more politically neutral. Have you ever read a legal document? I keep it fair and to the point.
The law MAY have not been in place because Hammerfel originally wanted a site that was self-policed. If someone had a problem with another member or their pictures, it would be conducted through PMs. If things got out of control, then the mod/admins would be asked to step in or they would step in anyway.
As well, there is a REPORT/FLAG picture option on this site. For a time, I'd get 15 a day, usually by the same guy. They would give no reason, just that he didn't like them. We ask that there is reasoning of why a picture is offensive. I seem to remember a picture of Firefly blowing up Disneyland and that struck a chord with several people. I wasn't exactly around to take care of that one, but my proxy did.
Perhaps some of the community have forgotten HOW I got this position on this site. I came to the position because we were getting a number of spammers and flamers. At the time, only Hammerfel had the banning ability. Because he is busy, he promoted me based on my time here and the support I received from the community at the time.
Nekoman, you asked me to sight reasoning why FF's picture is worse than the others. Hammerfel already stated WHY. I am only going off what people are feeling about the photo in question. The other 3 photos that were brought up were directed to the people who originally posted them.
Part of the problem here is not focusing on the problem, but bringing up the past where no action was taken. Because I got no formal complaints about them AT THAT TIME, no action was taken. NOW that they have been brought to light, action is NOW being taken.
I state again, the situation with FF goes deeper than just 1 picture. It's only that this last act was the final straw.
OH! 1 last thing and I mentioned this before and this is entirely off topic.
The newly created Outrider Memorial area was set up for us to put photos (or whatever) in that section dedicated to him and his wife. I wanted to pm Deanne sometime and give her the link so she can see what people are doing in memory of Craig. It would be easy for her to cruise through instead of going through the pages in PHOTOS to find what would be pertinient.
Also, Hammerfel can't figure out how to get the COLLECTIONS and OUTRIDER sections on the front page like it does with FILES, REVIEWS, DIORAMAS and PHOTOS. He apologizes for that and seeks a web designer to see what the malfunction is.

If it can further and enrich the personality and story of a Dio, go for it.

My god, they were DANCING!!!!!
Chocolate city is a bar and grill, not a sex house. If you go to the chocolate city website there is a picture of people DANCING in the same pose are there front page. that's where I pulled the idea off the pose from. Have all of you really never happened across a music video of this style of dance in the last 19 years. Dancing.
And to address what hammer said. I didn't post it in order to create some sort of reaction or for the shock value. Because I didn't even think it could ever been implied that they were engaging in sexual intercourse in a parking lot while black ripcord watches. That's crazy. There toys with clothes on. And yes I had been warned or infracted upon or whatever. But this picture was not an attempt to over step the boundaries or push the envelope. I heeded my warnings wasn't trying to piss anyone off or freak anyone out. It was dancing.
I saw a bar with an freaking funny name and thought the picture was hilarious! That fact that you were all so offended by it is truly mind boggling to me. I guess I should have waited till wacky weds or said they were dancing. But I never thought it could be perceived as sex. Doc's still got his pants on! You took it down, you deleted my account whatever. I will not apologize for the photo as my intent was not to promote sex in the outdoors or prostitution Or whatever, I will apologize for offending you. I guess it's about perception I did not think you people who are offended what take it so out of context. What kind of dude do y'all think I am? I don't have any sex in my dios no naked customs, nothing close to that and probably never will. I totally 100 percent agree with the new rule of no sex scenes. I do. Because that was not what my shot was about. Sex with toys is retarded. The focal point was supposed to be the sign. Not the other silliness. And that's what is was as that's what all of this is, silliness. It was not sex folks, it was dancing. I am so sorry that so many people perceived it as otherwise. People on flickr seem to love it! It's funny. It's really funny. Chocolate city for the name of a bar where most patrons are African American is funny. This is my apology. I'm sorry to upset soooooooooooooooooooooo many people. I was not trying to disregard my warnings and cause a ruckus. It was just a joke about a bar. Ironically it got even more exposure because of this silly banning crap than it ever would have got if you had paid no attention to it or just deleted it and pm'd me, "hey inappropriate, your on a short leash, you trying to get banned yo?l" it could then have been explained. But to have such a knee jerk reaction to such radical misinterpretation did a lot more harm to this joint than the picture ever did. That sucka would probably be on page 6 and there wouldn't be a million posts about the dancing figs. I'm sorry you all didn't get the joke but hey at least you shook the place up a bit. This is the most posts I've seen here in months. That's all I got, I hope you all don't misinterpret this post. Thanks to everyone that has stood up for me and for all the nice pm's. the banning was an injustice, not because what you did was wrong, but because it was over a confused perception of an otherwise awesome photo. Joedios is well managed and all the people I've met here are so friendly :) infact I have to say thank you because Joesdios is my second home now.

Ah the old subject of sex and action figures.
Only thing I can add is once long ago I found a fanfic that had a three way with Flint, Lady Jaye and Optimus prime. No indication of this on the title or anything, just a Transfromers/GI Joe crossover was all it said. Really disturbed me at the time cause I was like "Why do people want to think about thier figures doing the nasty?"
I really gave up on trying to figure it out along time ago. Toys and sex should be reserved for toys designed for it IMO (Sorry couldn't resist the obvious joke there).
If it floats your boat, great, but I just don't think it works here.
I wouldn't call that censorship either, there are plenty of places to post the stuff (heck you can even make your own website if you chose). But I personally like the idea of JD being relitivly kid friendly. Even the "violent" content here is tame compaird to some sites I have seen.

Ok, FF, I'll un-ban you if you promise to represent JoeDios in a way you think won't be embarrassing to me. That includes the cursing I've seen in some of your threads being respectful of the members and the site.

Done and done. Embarrassing you was never my intent. Cursing is for sailors and hisstank members anyway.

I'm probably a little late on this matter but when reading all of your posts... this whole thing seems blown out of porportions...They're toys afterall.
And this is coming from a guy that havent even seen the mentioned "chocolate city" picture. I' mean I consider having a pretty warped sense of humor myself, I laugh to things that are crude, vile, and just inapropriate...but thats because I understand that sometimes "humor" has to be taken a little over the top to be funny...not always, but sometimes. (eg. bathroom jokes...to me they are funny cos' they are so bad/corny).
Or like a very bad movie that becomes funny because it is so freaking bad that its sad for the people who made it, cos' they were dead serious when making it.
Seeing FF's pictures and reading some of his posts have pretty much given me a picture of what kind of guy he is and what can be expected of him...so picture like this in question would have been funny for me (if I would have seen it).
So I'll agree to this 100%
Which is worse, seeing something that is completly natural behaviour for humans, or seeing people get killed in 100 different ways...blood everywhere etc.
and before anyone starts, yes they are toys, so sex is not "normal" for them...well neither is killing or anything else except being motionless pieces of plastic.
But in the end, this is Hammerfels site, and the ultimate decision lies in his judgement of what he wants shown in his website.
And I cant understand how boy scouts are relevant to this conversation even if someone put a gun on my head... or why are they even brought up...but hey, thats just me...

Me either. The funniest thing about this whole thread was the "jail time" comment. Give me a break! We are not blithering idiots!
The BSA also has a political agenda.
The military also look to the long haired skater rats at the mall for recruits. I have even seen recruiters talking to gang-bangers in their colors!
One more thing - remember "Tail-Hook" or Abu Ghraib (those pics they were naked)? So yeah, the military has sex scandals as well.
It was not long ago someone else was being told to read the rules & regs.
Congrats fireflyed & keep your nose clean!

Amen, Dave :) I've never seen recruiters chasing the lower class, minorities or seventeen year olds with promises of three squares, college or world travel :p If you are pro BSA, though, follow this link...http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/canteen-boy-and-the-scoutmaster/999462/ :)

wow
4000 Posts and just shy of 500 pictures on his account.. despite a number of said comments I still think the 'knee jerk reaction' was uncalled for.
You really couldn't just remove his picture and send him a PM? Coming from those that police this site you claim to be adults, yet the simplest issue and you've allowed it to get out of hand.
*applause*
Extremely well handled i must say. Although I am somewhat agreed with the new rules put up by the site owner, I'm reluctant to think people policing will be smart enough to follow them through.
Well done to Hammerfel; common sense prevails. But if I were Cory I wouldnt bother coming back. Your talent is wasted here in this community, where after so many hours posting and contributing, the powers that be allow a personal grievance to cloud their judgment and kill your membership with the drop of an axe.

I think it's a good plicy since I was to look at pictures with my 6 years boy and it's still to soon to explain some actions. And being a toy oriented site, we can have many kids looking to it and so...

cant we all just gt alone???
seriously though, i just wanted to say im glad this is worked out. i never saw the pictures so i have no say on that. i dont get on as much as i use to but i do like cory's pics and customs. he has helped me out with a crosshair head and if im not mistaken hes a fellow ketuckien. so ive only got good things to say about him.
the same goes for graham. its a hard job to do what he does when you know you will make some people mad, often not just the one, but a lot of their friends. general scarlett would know about how hard of a job this can be. still he does it and im grateful to him.
and last but surely not least hammerfel. the man puts up this site from his own money which has allowed us all to come here and do what we LOVE. you can tell from cory's writing how much it even meas to him. there were sides drawn and taken and opinions stated, im just glad we didnt take it so far as to lose members and/or lose this great site.
once again im just glad this has worked out. dont want to lose great members and people like cory, dont want to lose people who do what they do without pay or praise like G, and dont want to lose this great site hammerfel has given us alone with all the memories, dios and pictures by those such as the great outrider.

Yeah, that was strange. It came up because I said
I have to apologize for not posting sooner. My son is graduating 2nd grade, switching schools, and just finished up his Wolf year in Cub Scouts, and at work, a co-worker is moving on to another company and I have the annual E3 Expo to prep for next week, so I've been pretty busy.
And another JD member read that and brought the BSA into this discussion, which doesn't really belong here. The BSA has nothing to do with JD. No need to discuss that further.
Anyway, on with the Dios! =)

glad to see this has been resolved its things like this that have caused me to leave other sites people tend to take things above and beyond where they need to be my philosophy has always been to each his or her own but things like this should be left up to the mods and hammerfel end of story less this place turns into a hisstank or worse
