For those that dont know Target has the ROC R.H.I.N.O for 25 bucks. I picked up 2 the other day and noticed the driver is HeavyMetal but is named Rampage? Then theres SpeedMetal whom has the same name as the original HeavyMetal? Im just wondering whats going on up in Hasbro's G.I. Joe conference rooms.

Hasbro should be recognized as being environmentally friendly. The whole GI Joe line these days is based on recycling both sculpts and names. It's all they do since they lost the power of creativity.

Trademarks expire. It happens. Move on. But the Rhino is finally the price it was when it was an online exclusive, with excactly the same footpegs for the o-rings and not the 25th/ROC figures. So Hasbro really cheaped out on this one with the re-release, and Target jacked the price higher and higher.

I just came from Target not 10mins ago. They have a bunch of those things I have the better (IMO) colored RHINO already but If it drops any lower which I think it will concidering how many they had. I may grab one.

I went to Target today and saw it for $35. If it goes lower, I may get one. I have the DTC version, but I like the colours and driver better on the RoC version. Goes to figure they finally start dropping prices and they've gotten rid of their Pits, and the only figures that were cut were Cover Girl and both versions of Heavy Duty. The Past and Present set (or whatever it's called) with the Snow Jobs and snow mobiles were down to $12, but I still couldn't justify it for a couple vehicles and a couple figures I don't really want. I hope they release another set with different vehicle in the future.

Remember when HTS was closing out the DTC line on-line?
I got my DTC black RHINO on that uber-clearance closeout at Hasbro Toy Shop for about $7.99. And the ROCC for $9.99. Probably paid that again in shipping, but it still felt like the best deal on new toys I had in a long time. I think I also got a night ops humvee for 7 or 8 as well. And most importantly, DTC Major Bludd for only a couple bucks. :) I was going to buy a lot more and my wife said just get one of each...

I remember that! I snagged 3 RHINOS and 2 ROCCs. (I used them for Christmas Presents!) I also snagged about 10 Major Barrages for like $1.99. Man, those WENT fast!
I LOVE the Rhino. (ok, I'm not thrilled about that helo in the middle,)but it reminds me of the APC in Aliens!

WHOA! Hold on here.
Heavy Metal and Rampage are the same person?
I remember Heavy Metal as the duder who rolled with the Mauler.
Rampage, I had the understanding he was Beach Head's biggest fan (and so, he dressed up like him).
Forget the filecards. Did something happen to make them mix?

Heavy Metal was the Mauler's driver, but a Rampage was released that looked exactly like HM, only with slightly brighter colours. Now it appears Heavy Metal became Speed Metal for the RoC line and Rampage got the updated non-O-ring design between him and Heavy Metal.

Thx otto. My first intro to 'rampage' came from the Bastard Era where uh, he was like, a black skinned-ed Beach Head in JvC form. I think it was in the filecard or just after when a 2nd version was made, it said that Rampage was a HUGE fan of Beach Head and modeled his look after him.
HOW Heavy Metal became Speed Metal, whatever. That's just like... uh... Ozzy Osbourne turns into Sothis or something. And Rampage? well... I just know that the re-release Silver Mirage or whatver that thing is, that 'beach head' is Rampage to me. The colors are different enough than that duder can be Beachy's lil brother. ;)
Oh yes, he'll show up sooner or later. Just as that... uh... gray guy that also came with the cycle, he became the Leader of my Pit Cmdos! C'mon, same damn colors? A repaint? He's not Rollbar. Rollbar came with the RHINO or something. Hell, keeping pp's joeverses separate is NOT easy. (Rollbar became a genetically enhanced Saw Viper whose name I forget. Therefore, ROllbar's deaded and this new sculpt guy... HA! He has yet to have a name other than SARGE in terms of him leading my pit cmdo's to their jabroni-aic death!!!)
This i command? Or order? Or decree. Or try to at least. Oh c'mon, give love to guy the in the weird suit which is even weirder than Cobra Commander's or... Well, not Raptor or Crystal Ball but like... uh... "I shall run around with armor or a t-shirt before GI JOe and live to tell about it! When i wear armor, Zartan shall put an arrow thru my eyeball!!! THIS I COMMAND!"

Rollbar came with the Jungle Strike and Night Ops Humvees. The Rollbar that came with the Snarler Cycle might as well be a new Airborne or Hit & Run version as he is the same sulpt and accesories.
And just to add to the confusion, the Rmapage that looked like Heavy Metal had the same file name. So between Heavy Metal, Speed Metal and Rampage you've got two different characters.
Heavy Metal v1 from 85, Rampage v1 from 89 and Speed Metal from 09 all have the same file name. Rampage v1 from 89 was laft over stock from South America and he is designated as the Mauler driver so if he's a new character why does he have the same name as Heavy Metal? Dunno.
Now, Beach Head wannabe Rampage and the Driver of the RHINO are both Rampage and have the same file name.
The RHINO driver Rampage does look like an updated, 25th version of Heavy Metal v1, where as Speed Metal looks nothing like Heavy Metal v1. Both Beach Head wannabe Rampage and Mauler driver Heavy Metal are armour drivers so this could be why Rampage is the RHINO driver, though if it were up to me, and Hasbro has yet to get back to me for my opinion on anything (bastards), I'd have made the RHINO driving Rampage be Heavy Metal and have Rmpage retain his Beach Head wannabe look. Speed Metal could be an all new character.
Seriuosly wish Hasbro would have signed longer trademark rights that way Rock & Roll wouldn't be that chainsaw weilding guy and Clutch wouldn't be Double Clutch.

You can't trademark common names/words, thus you get guys real names or "G.I. Joe" or either "blast" "double" "sgt" tacked onto existing codenames.
I find the whole Heavy Metal to Speed Metal transition to be something that is far too clever for Hasbro to have come up with intentionally, but maybe they called him Speed Metal because much like the music the figure is terrible

OK, I undestand the trademark thing there, makes sence, but couldn't Hasbro copyright or trademark "Rock & Roll" as a character name?
The Heavy Metal to Speed Metal was kind of clever. Kinda makes me wonder if there's going to be a whole seriese of armour drivers, Heavy Metal, Speed Metal, Death Metal, Progressive Metal, Power Metal, etc...
Oh in your description of the music, you spelled "kick-ass" wrong. (Using italics highlighted the mis-spelling:)) Though, the figure does leave something to be desired.

I guess Beach-Head fan Rampage switched idols to Heavy Metal, who just HAPPENED to have used the same codename in his earlier days. And so by the time he was driving the RHINO, now-Heavy Metal-fan Rampage had changed his appearance to look like his new hero (even to the point of bleaching his skin white). And the joke's on him, as Heavy Metal (now codenamed Speed Metal) has changed his own look with a razor and peroxide.
I think it's all a huge scam on the part of the Joes (I'm also looking at you, "Double Blast" and "Whiteout") where the same guys are cashing multiple paychecks.

I call the guy that came with my RHINO from Target "Heavy Metal" because he looks like the one that came with my Mauler when I was a kid, but he washed his face. I dont have "Speed Metal" because it is a crappy fig that came in a crappy 3 pack. I had never heard of Speed Metal before and I think it is kind of a dumb name. With the 25A stuff, who really cares what they are called? Dataframe is Mainframe, etc. I throw away the file cards anyway.

That's because all you read are Jack Chick comics.

Not to mention Characters (aka REPAINTS!!) ...hey, it's "Neon-Glow,wall-Climbing, Web=slinging, Urban-Jungle Gay nightClub Camoflauge Duke!" (Just that long sarcastic name makes me wanna see what hasbro could come up with for that!!)
I took the Beach Head from the snarler and with a little eqipment Change "Viola!"...I made a LBC Wreckage! If they have such an issue with Generic names being Copyrighted, I wonder what kind of flack they are getting on the Transformers side of the house. "Ravage", "soundwave", "wheelie". I wonder why they get to keep their generic names?
I ALWAYS thought of the GI joe Team as having each Code name assigned to a billet. For Example, "FLASH" is their Laser Specialist. So when Anthony Gambello got killed with Blaine Parker (MAinFrame) The just got a new guy to be "Flash", and take over his resposibilities and code name! Same thing with "MainFrame". There might be "MainFrame" on the team now, but his real name is different!.

This topic got to me thinking...Mauler driving Heavy Metal became Speed Metal, Rock & Roll became Bench Press, Dial Tone got a sex change... since the release of the 25th and RoC style figures, has there been an entirely new Joe character introduced? The only one I can think of off hand is Agent Helix and maybe Specialist Trakker (but does he count as "new" since he's based on an older figure from another toy line?).
Near as I can tell, the last new Joe characters were Med-Alert, the Steel Brigade, and lady Doc.

Wasn't the guy who came with the ROCC a repaint of someone from the JvC line? ANyway, I'm glad I do my own thing with figures a lot of times.

Helix is the only one I can think of, unless you cound Hard Master, who was never a figure, but is not a new character. I dont count the RoC neo vipers and their endless number of neon repaints, but some of them are "new" like the terra viper, who was a silly repaint of croc master anyway.

I guess he could be counted as he wasn't one character whochanged his name and is now called the Hard Master because of licensing rights.

The Rollbar that came with the Snarler is a different guy to the Hummer driver, going by the filenames...
Sgt. Stone is a new character, even if his looks and name are a bit Flint-like.
Wraith first appeared in action figure form in the 25th line.
