View Full Version : An Unusual Hot Wheels?!

My son got this Hot Wheels delivery truck, and the decor on the side looks familiar... Did they blatantly rip off Snake-Eyes, or is this "just a coincidence."
The copyright on the bottom of the truck says 1986, but I'm sure that had to do with the mold. (I doubt the store would have kept the truck on their shelves for the last23 to 24 years.)
Any thoughts?

Definitely looks like it was inspired by Snake Eyes.

I think it's different enough to avoid litigation, but yeah, looks a lot like him.

Too bad it's not a red line. Although looks like red line tires. Yes, I do admit, I do have a Hot Wheels collection....

As I seem to recall, ninjas were all the rage back in the mid '80s. Everything was going ninja at that time, including myself for Halloeen one year. While it does look like out favorite silent commando, I'm guessing Mattel's intention was was just to keep up with the ninja fad.

What I find amazing is how COOL that artwork is. It looks MODERN. That's over 20 years old and the art looks fresh unlike most comic art!

Maybe someone in the design department at Mattel was a Snake Eyes fan. :)

Excellent! I thought the 1986 on the bottom was similar to when Hasbro released old tool stuff in the early 2000's. They use old molds with old dates on it, some new paint, and they are in business!

When I was in Thailand this New Years, I noticed the same Hotwheels were on sale there as here. In the past, I remember the Hotwheels in Singapore were different than those in the States. Now what I saw a lot of over there were some competitors Exclr8 (if I got the name right). They were everywhere, and I'm seeing them more and more here too.

Reminds me more of a TMNT Foot clan ninja than of Snake-Eyes, actually. Anyway, it's probably just a random ninja that speaks to our obsessions.
