Hey Guys,
I was completing a trade on hisstank and ran into a snag. I mailed out a pilot firefly that came from the roc cobra gunship to a dude on monday. Here's what the message I got from him today.
"I mailed out your stuff today. I just went and got the mail out of my mail box and the Bubble mailer you sent had no figure in it. The side was split open with no figure."
Well I hate situations like this, I have dealt with a lot of you guys so you know that I'm stand up guy when it comes to deals. So natuarally I feel like I need to make this right. I told the guy I'd paypal him some funds or another figure of his choosing but he really has his heart set on the Pilot Firefly. So that's what I need guys, I need a Pilot FF with his vest and helmet. I can trade or send you some funds, but I really need this ASAP. My word is one the line and I don't like to fuck people over. So if any of you O-ringers picked up the gunship and have that FF lying around please send me a pm. You guys are my boyz so I know you will come through for me. Thanks guys.
Cory
I know I probably should not have started my own thread, but I'm really in a bind and need a timely response. I'm sure my boy G will let this slide! :D
I'm on the road for work right now, so I won't be on as much as I normally am, but I will respond as soon as I can, thanks guys.

I dunno man...help out a guy that's so into a black Ripcord?
I can hook you up. I've got the one with the red helmet, so I hope he's not too picky.
Send me your address and I can get it to you, (or him if you'd like) tomorrow (01/22).

I just hope that if Craig has problems, he doesn't make a post here while the para medics are trying to get him to the hospital. Unless of course, o-rings are the ONLY way to heal him!

Ya know, when I started this thread I knew you would be the only douchebag out of everyone that would have something smart to say.
Back to the topic at hand, I was able to secure the figure less han an hour after I started the thread. Thanks guys for all your help!
Ya know, when I started this thread I knew you would be the only douchebag out of everyone
What's so "douchebag" about finding something suspicious about a bubble mailer being conveniently split open so the figure can just fall out any time without any mailman noticing?
It seems like he's making it up to get another free figure.
that would have something smart to say.
Well that's just how I am. I prefer saying smart things to stupid things.

Well Fireflyed, you do realize that Jay has to be a douchebag. He doesn't have any sort of personality otherwise. If he wasn't an asshole all he'd be able to do would be post things about his masturbatory pseudo self custom that's like a hardcore martial artist and is probably really popular!
If I had a Firefly for you, I'd send it your way, but I do not my friend!

I once received an envelope which had a split on one side, as did the little baggie inside; it was meant to be the visor for Action Force Steeler, and was being sent to me for free -- nothing to screw me over for and if it was a joke or something it meant he was out the price of a stamp for it.
I think some of the machinery the Post Office uses to sort items can occasionally cause things of odd shapes to be squeezed out of envelopes, like if it goes between some rollers because it's been sorted as a letter. Or occasionally something might get snagged somewhere and cause just enough damage for whatever's inside to work its way out.
I think your attitude towards this is admirable, fireflyed, wanting to make things right -- it's good to know there's honourable people in our collecting community!

I would think that if he was pulling a scam, he'd request money over another figure, since he'd already have the figure. Then again, the way some people are about acquiring figures...

It happens. I just recently recieved a parcel which had been torn open and the contents were missing. Luckily the seller was an decent person and gave me a refund without any hassle. Since then I've put in a claim at the post office to see if I can get some money back for the seller.

A long time ago when I was in college, my mom sent a small package that she had wrapped in a folded piece of bubble wrap inside a regular letter sized envelope.
There was clearly a problem with the machine as I received fragments of the envelope, a small portion of the letter she sent and a "Best of Motown 5" cassette tape. (Not what mom had sent...)
There was such a foul up at the post office that they put that all in a small USPS ziploc bag with a pre-printed apology on it. Evidently, these things happen from time to time, or they wouldn't have "apology baggies" already to go. :)
I'm glad everything worked out...and let's move on to other topics.

You know, you guys can rag Jay all you want, but it was the first thing that went through my mind, too. Most of you have had dealings with me and you know I'm a pretty straight shooter, and I understand where FireFlyed is coming from, he feels that since the figure didn't reach it's destination intact, it's up to him to make it right, and I admire you for that, but I can also see where Jay is coming from. My dealings on ebay, I've had people take my money and swear that the stuff is on it's way...and then the replacement is on it's way...or they mailed me out a check, until it's too late to lodge a complaint with ebay, and then I get shafted. All you can do is make sure no one can say the same about you. I get hateful sometimes when I deal honestly with someone and they shaft me, but I don't let it affect me when dealing with others. Sometimes, you get shafted enough by people you trust and it makes you jaded and suspicious.
Just because Jay is suspicious doesn't make him bad, hell Cory, I see it as him kinda lookin out for you. You're a hell of a guy from my dealings with you and I could see some asshole taking advantage of you. Sometimes suspicion is NOT a bad thing! My question is, did the guy ask for insurance on the package? If he did, I'd say let him use that as reimbursment.....

Awesome work joedios! that was a fast save.
As to Jay pointing out what most might have been thinking.
He could have said fireflyed was trying to get a figure, that would have made him an a$$h0l3, but then again, everybody here knows fireflyed and that he is one of the most stand up guys you can find.

I'm not a retard living in my parents basement. I know that it could be a scam for a second figure. I just don't give a damn, it's only one pretty lousy figure. It's not even worth getting into it with the guy versus just replacing it for him. Plus, it's the NICE thing to do. Call me crazy but I consider myself a pretty nice guy.
Also, thank you Jay because I know deep down you had my best intrests at heart. I guess my previous comment stems from the fact that whenever I read messages typed by you, all I hear is an annoyed child based on the content of ALL of your negative posts. I'll try not to shoot from the hip next time and instead just hold it in and shake my head.

Okay guys maybe some people might think telling Jay off because "Well jeez it could be possible someone is ripping him off" is outta line. I'm positive that if the first person who said wasn't someone who's known throughout Joedios (and I'm talking a wide array of people) as "That twit that doesn't do anything but nitpick and bitch about everything" no one would've said anything to him. Jay's a punk and I hope he reads this and replies.
A lot of people don't like Jay.

Actually I think I just figured out what is going on here....
Fireflyed wanted a Cobra Gunship Firefly Pilot to complete his collection of every version of Firefly to live up to his screen name and didn't want to go out and spend $25 for a so-so vehicle just for a figure to complete his Firefly collection. Since he's a traveling business man of some kind, he figured the best way to acquire said figure was to set up a completely new identity in another city and state to throw of f whom ever would be willing to help him out.
He created this other identity and live as that person for several weeks so as to get to know his neighbors, getting married to another woman, adopting a dog and most importantly, getting to know the postal carrier.
Now that he got his new persona, he set his plan in motion.
He opened a second account on HISS Tank.com under this different name and established a reputation there so no one would suspect he was the same person.
He made a deal with himself between the two personas and sent a torn open envelope to his other address and pointed it out to the postal carrier, who, unfortunately on that day, was not the normal postal carrier, and had no idea who he is, therefore cared little for his problem.
Knowing he could play on the sympathies of the fine folks of Joedios, he posted a forum topic stating his dellima of needing a Cobra gunship Firefly Pilot.
Shortly after posting, a sympathetic soul responded to his post and offered up his own Cobra Gunship Firefly Pilot, even though it meant his own collections of Fireflys would be minus one.
Said sympathetic JoeDios member mailed off the Cobra Gunship Firefly Pilot to Fireflyed's second address, where Fireflyed, claiming he's on one of his business trips will be waiting for it with eager anticipation, leaving a sympathetic JoeDios member Cobra Gunship Firefly Pilot-less.
Using the claim that he is on a business trip and doesn't really have any access to his collection to maybe trade for the Cobra Gunship Firefly Pilot, Fireflyed promises that upon his return home he'll find something to offer to the sympathetic JoeDios member that sacrificed his own Cobra Gunship Firefly Pilot to help out.
However since it will be a week or two until his return home, Fireflyed will then use this time to check the local obituaries of a small town in Kansas, searching for a newly deceased individual that has a similar body type to his own, and exhume his body.
After renting a car under yet another identity, he'll smash the teeth of the corps and place the diseased body in the rental car and drop a brick on the gas pedal, sending it full speed down the highway, hopefully making it flip and slide off a cliff face. The explosion of the car will destroy the body enough that it can be sort of identified as Fireflyed, but not 100% because the dental records can't be matched.
Fireflyed, being the clever man he is now takes his newly acquired Cobra Gunship Firefly Pilot and retreats to the Bahamas with his two wives and his dog under yet another new identity, leaving the sympathetic JoeDios member screwed and with an incomplete collection of Fireflys.

Firstly I like just about everyone here on JD. I've done business with some, gotten frustrated with others, and had hours of laughter with still others. I like coming here, everyone is professional, some add great comments, others a little on the nit-pick side, but nothing bashing.
Until now.
What is the purpose of this thread? Why is it not locked? The emergency situation FireFlyed had is resolved, or about to be resolved when those figures arrive. What is the purpose to keep the thread alive when it is already hijacked? Just to bash another member. That's uncool and disappointing.

Firelyed and Roland are both great posters here on Joedios and that is why its so suprising to me that you say that "a lot" of people don't like Jay that vauge statement is designed so that people will think that its true when people don't immediately step in and say no. But the thing is that people allmost never step in between qarreling because nobody wants to get involved. Its a retholical trick to get people to feel unwelcome when there is no reason to. :(
Well I don't buy it! I think this is just two buddies sticking up for each other in what they first thought were a flaming attack.
If Jay should belive you and loose interest in Joedios it would be a HUGE loss as his customs and pictures are great and his comments have actually something to say.

I've never met Jay, so I can't say what kind of person he is, but he is very forthright in his opinions, which of course he's entitled to be. Unfortunately his manner and almost always negative comments and nit picking upset people. Most folks can handle constructive criticism, but not comments that ridicule or belittle, which Jay has a tendency to do. He has canned my pics plenty of times, both here and on Flickr. I've had my problems with Jay in the past, but I refuse to let him bother me anymore, so I blocked him on Flickr and try to ignore him here.

this was a terrible thread, but shows that we all should evaluate how we comment. this was one time when jay's response wasn't caustic, just honest. i told him to jump down a mineshaft on flickr and i regret that. ALL OF US should resist knee jerk responses on Joedios. a considered response will eliminate hostility and hostility negates anything constructive. there are so many different POV's here on Joedios and there is room for all of them. if Trench-Viper, who is consistently courteous and helpful, was upset, i think there is a problem because he is the epitome of Joedios. i apologize to Jay for my hostility towards him and Death at Midnight for continuing the thread ( but i'm a liberal and we do sh*t like this )...and knowing is half the battle :p

I do think this topic got a bit out of hand though and I agree with the one poster above that basically as soon as Fireflyed's situation was taken care of, the topic should have been closed.
I think we should all move on to the next topic of discussion: The Theory of Quantum Physics and their Effects on the Sexual Habits of Snails in a Hail Storm.

The thing is, it's not one or two comments. It's that 80% of his comments are incessant nitpicking or are designed too tear down the photo, it's not "I would do this to improve your photo" it's "Meh your custom isn't any good since you didn't paint the gloves" or "The Storm Shadow you used is terrible his eyes are blue, asians don't have blue eyes"
It's being overly critical. Also there are a few instances I've seen where someone has been critical of his photos (in a way similar to how he is) and all of a sudden, it's being mean and the person making the comment isn't entitled too. Let me know if you want proof.
While I agree Jay shouldn't have been ganged up on (Though it really didn't look that way to me) I do not think anything said in this thread was out of line. My first post in this thread was interpreted as being harsh which wasn't necessarily what I intended, I wrote it with quite a sardonic tone, but this isn't a verbal form of communication so it was almost universally missed.
Trench Viper, I think your a great poster and that you take very good photos, so I'm not happy we're on opposite sides.
Also to Otto The Otter, while "Don't say anything if you can't say anything nice" is a very nice mantra to live by, the problem with that by doing that, when someone doesn't play by those rules (In this case Jay) those who bite their tongue, allow it to continue.

Perfectly stated Ian. That's why I blocked Jay on Flickr. His very first comment on one of my pics was along the lines of "Your custom is the height of silliness" without offering any suggestions for improvement. Constructive criticism I can abide, but people pissing on my pics can go and annoy someone else.
And I don't believe there was any "ganging up" on Jay either. It was just a selection of the many people he has upset over the years coming back and biting him on the arse. It was bound to happen sooner or later.
