Greetings all!

Hopefully this weekend I'll try posting a thread concerning my castle set. At the moment this set is very small, about six components--1 arch, 4 walls with "windows", 2 walls--on a 14"x14" stone tile. Soon it will grow by six more components, all walls.

The run-down is that this is painted floral foam, the delicate powdery kind. It's easy to shape, carve, and cut, and easy to sand down. Rubbing with fingers can make stone look weathered and aged. Using a heat gun one can melt the surface so that it's a protective shell and harder to damage the foam. And with a good coat of latex paint, the surface can be made to look fairly smooth.

I use at least two layers of paint--one black and one stone textured. The stone paint allows for the undercoat paint shade to come through, so it's possible to do effects like using some green to make natural looking discoloration in the stone, as when algae or moss grow on stone at the grass level.

As I prepare the how-to, please post questions in this thread or in the comments to one of my pics, or just PM me, so that I can be sure to address it in the how-to.

Thanks all!! :-)
