for me the 80's were the golden years (for many others too when you look at pop culture). that being the case i have many other memories when i think of G.I Joe.

the smell of my cousins house.
the smell of dirt, yeah, we played a lot in the dirt.
wrestling, it played a big part in my life and in we used our joes to play it out.
hulk hogans wrestling all stars, i think that is what the cartoon was called.
the super bowl shuffle, cannot, cannot get that out of my head.
spending hours and hours drawing pictures.
listening to bands like bon jovi, poison and white snake.
the girls me and my friends had crushes on who are now out of shape lol.
star wars and young guns.
playing guns.
racing cans in the creek.
jem, the cartoon. the list goes on and on.

what are some of your memories?

I also think of my friend who used to come over and we used to pick GIJOE teams.. build up a big story line and have hours of fun.. our summers (6 weeks holidays) as it was called back then.. we used to be off school and have 6 weeks of none stop GIJOE.. I also think about our old house we used to live in. :D

Good Times.

Zandar was my first Joe in 86. He was my Rambo, Rocky and the number 10 (the star) of my soccer team. Yeah, I used to play soccer games with my joes and cobras.

GI Joe also remember me of Papo, a childhood friend. I know GI Joe because of him. He had almost 82 and 83 figures, the Stinger and the Fang. I was in love of Destro, his shiny head was so appealing.

I remember the summer vacations in the house of my grandfathers in Quito - Ecuador. The toystore only have the figs from 2 years ago. It was like time traveling. I bought BigBoa and the Mamba in 1989!

In one of those vacations, one night, I made a parachute for Outback, I gave him Law's uzi and dropped him since the 3rd floor of my grands house. In the first floor was a cousin of mine, his mission was to watch and capture him. Outback landed safely. But when I reach the first floor, Outback was gone. My cousin said he threw it to the air and became a MIA... I didnt believe him then. You what I'm thinking about.

I enjoyed the 80s a lot. one of the best times of my life.

The Christmas my brother and I got the Flagg. Not only was it the most awesome playset ever, we were the only ones in the neighborhood to get it...ever! I can still remember my dad putting it together, it took him about 6 hours. Never before, nor since, have I ever heard such masterful, poetic filth come from one man.

Theres one Very Happy memory i'll never forget that involved G.I Joe,it was way back when G.I Joe was first getting going.I was sick alot when I was a Kid,and just about every Year i'd have to go to UVA for Surgery. At this point I had the first bunch of Figures, and a couple Vehicles. And around the time I was going down for one of my many Yearly Operations the Mobat Tank was just coming out,and you couldn't find them anywhere yet.My Grandpa spoiled me something crazy,he would take me to buy all my Joes.So before I left he asked me what I wanted him to get me for a Present for when I got back, and of course I said the Mobat.Well I was gone for 2 Weeks for my Surgery, and the whole time I was gone I found out Grandpa was going crazy driving & calling everywhere trying to find me a Mobat.Well he never let me down one time in my life, and this time wasn't any different. He finally found a Store that just got a couple in,so he drove there ASAP and bought me one.The only trouble was the Store was around 3 hours away, but that didn't stop him.And sure enough when me my Mom & Grandma pulled into the Driveway there was Pop with a Big Smile & my brand new Mobat, that sure made one Sick Boys Day!I still have my Mobat to this Day,but my Paw passed away in 1995.I always took great care of my Mobat,it never even went outside. So it's still in Mint Condition, and it's one Mobat that's Priceless to me! THANK'S Paw! :)

I remember one Christmas and I really wanted the Tomahawk. I knew it would take up a bit of space, but I loved helicopters. As we went around unwrapping gifts, I didn't see any packages that fit the size.

Well I got down to the last present and opened it and it was a tiny Matchbox sized diecast helicopter. I swallowed hard and told my parents thanks for the helicopter. Mom said "Why don't you look at the back of the package?"

...There was a little sticky note that said "Go check in the coat closet."

My emotions went from subdued disappointment to jubilation in about 6 seconds!!!

There was the Tomahawk!!

Mom said she knew I wanted it, but there was no way to "disguise" the box.

That just came to mind when I read this thread.

My memories are related to the G.I. Joe comercials. The '82 series that was released here in '84 or something like that, had a big mountain as base on the comercial. I can remember the fight. I was just sad that about that time I couldn't get any Joes due to their price and low profit my parents were making that time.

However, there aren't only sad memories. I used to have the Armymen and so do my friends. We seatled BIG battles, involving BIG armies, since the green plastic armymen were cheaper. My armymen became my Joes at the time.

By the end of the '80s I got my first Joe, if I remember it was Fast Draw. In the '90s came Voltar, Rampart (My all time general) and Alpinista new. I was also able to buy some 2nd handed Joes/cobras/vehicles from a guy on Highschool. But never let him know they were for me :D. Other of my childhoods friends got Joes from him. So I was 14/15 and playing Joes with my 14/15/16 friends hiding on the woods :) . So the '90s were the decade for me.

Not to mention the Use Your Illusion from GN'R in '91 to add to my Apetite for Destruction LP. Oh yeah, I'm a gunner  . Hard Rock baby!

On moves Predator and all the Vietnam era movies got our attention.

I have LOTS of Memories about the 80's and GI Joe. I remember July 4th 1982, when I went on a beer run with my uncle and dad to Rite Aid (I can't remember why they went to the drug store to buy beer!?!) but I saw new GI Joe figures and a few weeks earlier, I had just bought the GI Joe Comic. There I saw them....Stalker, Snake eyes, Grunt, RockNRoll, Flash and Zap. I snagged SE and Stalker and headed to the register. My uncle, who didn't wanna waste time having me check out separately (I would have cut into his beer time!) paid for my first two Joes.

A few hours later I went back and got Flash and Rock-N-Roll. I was into StarWars at the time and I Loved that the new joes were the same size. The Articulation blew me away (and this was before swivel arm!)

That was ONE of my memories.

I remember my father had a garden in the back one year (he never got anything to grow!). in spring of 1983, I dug it up and made a trench around it and put my 1983 HQ in the middle and made a fire base out of it.

I remember having friends that collected and we set up HUGE wars. Most of the time, by the time we unloaded our stuff and set up, it was time to go!

I remember getting me and my Cousin Gregory (he was about 8 and I was about 17 or 18) TomaHawks. I remember they cost $16.99 a piece and I loved having a troop carrying helicopter!

And I remember going to Hills Department store and having to use $50.00 of my own money to buy the FLAGG on Christmas. (My Parents were poor, so they agreed to pay half.!) We were in my Aunt's little hatchback and the box was so big we had to lower the back seat and sit on the Box with our heads cranked to the side because we were hitting the ceiling. We had stiff necks for two days because the ride was an hour and a half and my sister and cousin Anita cursed me the whole time!

Damn, thanks for the memories!

the drug store is cheaper to buy beer then other places.

that was the story of our childhood. we wold take all day to make a base, and get to play for about 30 minutes.

you were 18 and still playing, lucky dog. everyone around me acted to mature to play.

the last one sounds like a memory all of us should have went through. you never lived unless you had to ride in discomfort, that and in the back of a truck with a bunch of your friends.

I remember Christmas 87, Between my brother and I we got the Maggot, the Persuader, and a slew of 87 figures like Jinx, Chuckles, Big Boa, Croc Master, Law and Order, Raptor, and the Cobra La pack. It was a good Christmas. Then two years later we bought a friends entire Joe collection because he didn't want them anymore. It included a Terror Drome, Night Raven, W.H.A.L.E, and a lot of cool figures. Those were good years.

So many
1. My Grandma buying my first joes Shipwreck, Snake Eyes v. 2, Lady j, Roadblock v.2, and Flint.

2. Playing for hours with my cousins Russel and Christina taking more time to set up then actually play.

3. Meeting my friend Tim in 2nd grade (he was the best man at my wedding) we would talk about/play with joes all the time and make fun of people not much has changed in 20 years.

4. My Grandma ordering me the Persuader and Zanzibar's Air Skiff from QVC

5. My mom helping me collect the flagg points and mailing in for the Super Trooper.

6. Finding Dialtone at Toys R Us in 1988 and convincing my Grandpap how much needed him and that he was a figure I didn't get when he came out.

7. Buying the crappy ver.2 mercer, v2. Grunt and 2 other crappy figures with firing missles for $20 of Birthday money only to go to a flea market the next day with my folks and see a complete terror drome for $20 which they refused to buy me and told me how if I hadn't had that money burning a hole in my pocket i could have bought that.

I'm sure there's more but wow so many great memories.

dave that was hilarous.

My best joe memory, was a christmas day in which my dad just got back from being stationed in Alaska with the airforce where he'd been since I was born. I remember getting an avalanche and lynx and my first memory with my dad was squaring off in a tank duel with him. luckily I had the avalanche. :)

1. Receiving a ton of GI Joes and the original oversized Marvel #1, X-mas 1982. My parents had tapes them so the packages faced each other to resemble a box. I went ape shit and well, over 20 years later...

2. A friend blowing up an ARAH Torpedo at the grade school and everyone making dibs for what part they wanted.

3. LOSING Torpedo behind the condo we lived in (as a kid). His gray/black color scheme didn't go well with the concrete stairs we were playing in, if you know what I mean. On top of that, it was all wild growth back there so...

4. Playing in FRONT of the condo and the VAMP rolling into blackberry bushes. I'm sure a LOT of vehicles were damaged that way.

5. Trying to carry my Joes in the APC as a carrycase and them all falling down to the end.

6. I had a yellow bean bag. One of those ones you could sit in. THAT was my Cobra Island YEARS before Cobra Island was even created. What else was I gonna use beside my bunk beds and whatnot?

7. Getting Gung Ho for my b-day from the Canadian foreign exchange student we were hosting for a short time. That was in my soccer days in which, while we were the best in the state, got crushed by them.

8. My buddy having a b-day at Chuck E Cheese's (when it was cool) and getting Storm Shadow before me. I remember the smell of Bubbletape too. Incidentally, he got several figures before me and/or had figures I never got. The Crimson Guard comes to mind.

9. Trying to play with Deep Six and the SHARC in the bathtub. That went well. (note sarcasm)

10. Going to a friends house who had the REST of the O13 that I didn't. So odd cuz he filled in the holes in that regard! He also had 12" but we never played with those DOLLS! :p

11. I'll skip to about 1994. I was in Alaska. Summer between 1st and 2nd year of college. Seward, Ak. 1 funky drugstore that had GI Joes. And it was old GI Joes that were gathering dust. I am STILL kicking myself for NOT buying them. NOT to have and to hold for love, it would've been for ebay purposes or trying to sell them off to Brians Toys. But nooooooooo, I was too busy buying Primus and Faith No More cds and seeing Johnny Mnemonic and Waterworld 15x in the dinky lil theater...
