just wondering if anyone else has read this yet, and if so were you as disappointed as i was? everything down to the art sucked. you would think that a big last issue and chapter 12 of 12 that it would go out great. it didnt, mainly because it featured characters that only came around with VvV, not a way to go using almost new characters while the old greats get put out to pastor. not only that but they use some guy that we never know as a main character. we never got a figure of him and never will as he wore street cloths.

you would also think there would be a big battle, there wasnt. cobra commander entered the last battle on page 39 and was beaten 8 panels laster. seriously, he shot colton, started to run and out of nowhere hawk flew in on a jet pack and tackled him and the war was over. snake eyes beat firefly in 1 panel after storm shadow stopped talking. that is why DD doesnt need the joe line. kill off all the old characters, but bring new characters that they created(probably as extensions of themselves) and use them as the main focal point. i have never been one to brag, but i swear to god i could have outdone this in every way from the art to the story.

way to go out with a bang DD, you should have just killed CC off or let cobra won the day in a twist.

The biggest disappointment for me with the final few issues of AE was definitely the artwork, after the rumors started that DD was losing the Joe license, the artwork took a serious dump. I still liked the WWIII storyline for the most part, but I too was left wanting for the ending, it was tied up too quickly, but that being said DD only had so many issues to do it in. I like the use of the plague, and they had more than a few classic characters, Scarlett, SE, Storm Shadow, Duke, Flint, Wild Bill, Gung Ho, Spirit, I didn't find the use of classic characters lacking at all. And in the entire DD run the only 'major' Joe killed was Lady Jaye, yes, they did kill off numerous 'secondary' Joes (though they may not be secondary in your Joeverse, in the Marvel and Sunbow 'verses they were) ie. Mainframe, Chuckles, Low Light.

Overall, I enjoyed the DD run, they kept the Joe's going, and yes it was hit and miss at times, but so was the Marvel run. I can only hope that IDW's retcon works for me. It has a good writer in Larry Hama, I hope he produces good stories.

i too like the DD comics, at first that is. the last year, maybe year and a half i really started to hate it. im not sure if i said it, but the highpoint for me in the last issue was seeing sci-fi.

im really looking forward to the dreamwave comic and hoping larry wonk make the same mistakes he did with the original, that being making it all about 1 character(snake eyes). it will be good to see all the dead joes i love still around. but then again, since its starting all over, i dont think we will see many of our favorites in the near future. still, the artwork looks great and if it remains so, and the writing stays strong, ill be around for the long haul.

I don't know how much Hama is to blame for the Marvel run going bad, it coincided with the toy line going down hill. They way I look at it is who else could be more qualified to write GI Joe? I've read he's got more freedom than ever with the new series, so that's promising. I'm hoping for the best.

Now if only Hama would only bring back Nth Man.

High points: They get Oktober Guard back, ressurected Falcon e introduced some south american figures like Mortal.

Low points: The lack of denvelopment on the Oktober Guard, that could have used more screen time and the WWIII going for a small fight that ended HYPER fast, IMHO.
