'Weekend Warriors'-Beginnings.........

Alright, I read over the suggestions and something sparked my interest. The possibility of an ongoing storyline which all particpants contribute to.


Here's how it's going to go............


Alphabetically, by the member's screen name..........I'm fairly certain that's simple enough to follow, right??


So, the member who's screen name is the highest in the alphabet starts. They set the theme:

Now, don't get all out of sorts. Take a minimum of 2 pics-maximum of 4.........

Start the storyline, be sure to set the story in a way that the next member can pick it right up and continue.

I realize that not everyone has the same figures/vehicles/playsets. This should not be a problem though if it's set up to flow from member to member.

And this is open to all members of JoeDios. However, if someone does not post, or cannot post-let the rest of us know via this thread...........

That means that if your going to join in, you need to subscribe to this thread to be kept updated.

I'm confused; an ongoing storyline, passed from member to member alphabetically to create each short "chapter" on a weekly basis? That I can understand. How does the theme fit in? Is "Unlikely Heroes" effectively the title for the whole story or is that going to change each week too, so the member has to make his part fit the theme as well as the story?

And if it's one member at a time, does that mean it'll run concurrently with the regular thing of the weekly theme that everyone can use & post their interpretation of? I realise it's slowed down a bit lately and it's been a while since I took part myself (with the weather getting better I'm hoping I do get out into the garden again), but the Theme Week was one of the things that originally got me to sign up to the site so I could join in. If the story were to attract any new members, they'd have to make their username start with a Z so they could get in on it!

Ok, I can understand how this might be confusing.....let's see if I can simplify it a bit.........

Now I'm just throwing this up as an example.....don't feel that you have to use this track exactly.



Title: Unlikely Heroes

Poster 1: A shot of Sneek Peek and Scoop. They've been sent out to get the story for a hot air balloon fest that's being hosted near The PITT. While there, they spot Road Pig and Zandar, but what they're doing isn't immediately clear.

Poster 2: Sneek Peek and Scoop radio back to base with their findings. Tripwire and Tunnel Rat are on the comm at the time. They take the info and go to find Hawk.

Poster 3: Instead of Hawk, they find Lt. Falcon. When he's made aware of the situation, he calls the motor pool to get a team together to go out and investigate.

Poster 4: Torpedo, Cutter and Deep Six are oddly the only members in the motor pool. Probably because they were there to 'borrow' some of Clutch's tools to modify their water vehicles.

Poster 5: Being that they've been given an order, they mount up in whatever vehicle is 1st in line.....who knows, maybe it's a couple of Ninja Force cycles.....and they head out.

Poster 6: On their way to the park, they spot the Thunder Machine and figure that something big is going down. They follow Thrasher to the supermarket complex.

Poster 7: 'Something big is going down, it must be!!' Is what they radio back...... 'Don't lose them, whatever you do!' Is the response.

Poster 8: Some more Joes (take your pick) show up to lend a hand.....let's be honest, this is COBRA, they are capable of anything!!

Poster 9: 'When they come out, we'll take 'em. Then we'll make them tell us what they're up to!'

Poster 10: 'Huhnnn, all they've got is grape soda and chocolate covered donuts?!?' They follow the 'Noks back to the park......

Poster 11: Imagine the surprise on the Joes faces when they find out that Zartan and his cronies are just there to watch the hot air balloons as they light up the night sky.......

Poster 12: Sneek Peek captures the sound bite....'Reminds me of the fireflys in the swamp....but with less mosquito bites!'







Now we are an extraordinarily creative bunch here......I have faith that we can pull something off.

I realize that this is a big undertaking....but it doesn't have to be too complicated. If by tomorrow afternoon we don't have anyone in the upper part of the alphabet start it, then we'll just adjust to compensate.

I hope this clears up any confusions....but if there is still any questions, please post them up.....and we'll figure them out.

We'll try this, if it works, it will be some fun stuff......but remember, it might not go smoothly right off......so don't get discouraged.

That was my concern, as if I'm reading the first post right, "Poster 2" is meant to put up their couple of shots for the story the weekend after "Poster 1" does theirs? So each site member would get to contribute once or twice a year rather than have the option of joining a group activity every week!

I had some unexpected personal stuff this weekend....and nobody posted anything regarding it.........


But hopefully this is a group project that can gain some momentum..... :)

Would it be a good idea if instead of making it by alphabetical order, make it by signing up? This sign up could be weekly so anybody could "apply" for that week depending on how the story is going (if it adjusts to the characters/vehicles/locations or finally ideas one can have).

The idea of this is because some of us sometimes can't post on a specific week due to other compromises, and it would be complicated if you miss your turn because you would have to wait several weeks to post again in the ongoing story.

Now, how to select which of the participants signing up would be selected for each week, could be decided at random (roll a d20?) by the admins. The signing up could close on wednesdays and the selected guy for that weekend would be announced on thursday with a backup in case the selected guy would have an emergency that weekend.

It's just an idea.

The way I see it, it give the members a chance to every so often get 'double theme postings' in!!

Since people do have things come up, howsabout a weekly decision on whose turn it is? Like on Mondays, so that weekend's contribution should be up and give the following member maximum time to plan where they're going to take the story? Only the most sudden of emergencies should then prevent anyone taking their turn although a reserve could always be picked too.

How it could work: everyone who says they'd be able to do the next chapter goes into a draw (it could be an opt-out thing even, so everyone who signs up in the first place is in the draw unless they say they couldn't do that weekend). The user is drawn on the Monday with the result posted here so they can confirm they've seen it's their go, and once you've had your turn you don't go back into the draw until everyone's had a chance (or the only people left either can't do it or don't appear to be around).

Am I making sense? As I do think I've got a handle on it now...! One last thing, actually -- is the whole Group Dio-Story going to be titled "Unlikely Heroes" or will the theme change for each poster to base their chapter around?

I'm totally :confused: now.. I can understand this, that every participating member is going to at some point post their shots to a story called 'unlikely heroes' each member is allowed to post 4 follow up shots to the previous contributor as an ongoing continuation from last week.
What I don't get, is if it follows a set pattern/order of posting.. like say as the weeks go by we all at some point get to post.. it's going to be chaos as everyone could post their photos in on the same week? :confused:

I've grasped the idea that each member that says they are in, gets to contribute to a rolling ongoing story.. however if people start dropping out willy nilly because of this and that, your eventually going to have a stall out in the story as well as more than one contributor.

I want in on this, as I think it would be a good project to be in.. but i need to fully understand the set rules and the flow of the game first.. :o

Ok, this has been a bit more of a conundrum than I thought it would be....but still, let's see if we can't 'make heads or tails of it'..... :p


As of this posting, we have 14 members committed to the group project. That's a really good start, thanks everyone who volunteered!!

Alright, we've got a title and we've got volunteers.....now let's run it down...


It seems that the most even and productive way to go about this is by employing the suggestions of the members. I wrote down the particpating members names and threw them into a hat....the 1st one pulled out was:

Urban Saboteur


So, Rich will begin the group dio-with the next name picked (Sunday evening/Monday morning) to take care of the following weekend.

In the event that Rich cannot post up, his back-up is:

Stormer




Now, once Rich (or whoever is picked for each weekend) has confirmed and/or posted-their 'back up' will be placed back in the hat for equal consideration on the following weekend.


Once a contributing member posts on their set weekend, they will rotate out of the running for the primary weekend posting....but I'm wondering if we shouldn't put them in for the secondary slot.......thoughts??


Also, I know that we are all busy with life stuff.......so don't feel badly if you can't post up on a weekend you were selected for. Just be sure to let the rest of the gang know ASAP.

Posting should be done anytime between Friday late afternoon/evening through Sunday late afternoon.

Make sure that you leave your last pic open enough for the next poster to pick it right up!!

As always, if anyone else wants in, they are more than able to opt in for it!!

Alright guys,
I've posted up part 1 in both page formats under the dios section.
As set out by General Scarlett I tried to be as exciting as possible with the story line and went with something that Cobra would typically do, terrorist activities usually involve financial crimes of some sort too. So i involved that.

As for where the next story teller can take this, they can persue the cobra route.. they can persue the route that it's not a cobra attack and it is indeed a new enemy?
Maybe the new story teller could persue the roles of the 1st strike team responding.. if so what would they find and report back to General Hawk?
If it is cobra's doing, why steal a museum art piece and a person from the museum?

So much to take in here and yet so much potential to develop into a great story line.

I hope that we can all work on this and get the story built up. I guess it's over to G.S now to pick the next contributor out of the hat. :D

General Scarlett told me yesterday on MSN she wouldn't be coming back :(

There wasn't a mention of her coming back to help out on that particular project either, I think either Prince Adam or Sithviper are scheduled to post something up.

I started the story, and i hope that the others who volunteered will take this on and do something with it. I actually don't have any Figures or vehicles I could use to make the story now, I hope G.S returns and helps complete the project she started.

If not it might be worth mentioning this to Sonneilon and taking over the mantel for it.

In the meantime -- SithViper, if you're happy to take the baton from Rich and come up with a new chapter for this weekend, that'd be great! There's no reason why we can't stick to the "Unlikely Heroes" theme/title and the 4-photo limit. I look forward to seeing where it goes!

Regarding my contribution this weekend -- just wanted to run something by the group. 4 shot maximum as in 4 posts in the Dios section, or 4 actual photos? If it's the former, I'd happily do 4 Self-Modifier-style comic pages. Otherwise, if it's 4 photos, I'll keep it to 2 or 3 comic pages (meaning half-splashes or 1 page of that and 2 full splash pages).

I'm leaning towards doing 4 comic pages (as otherwise I'll probably cover a large shot with speech balloons), unless there are any objections?

If the 1st name picked cannot or does not post, then the backup pick takes over.

Yes, if the 1st choice *can't or doesn't* want to post, then they should show common courtesy and let the other contributing members know ASAP.

If you are the backup and the 1st choice did not post, then it's your ball to run with.

Being the backup can be quite frustrating.. but it's best to have something prepared and ready to go just in case the first choice can't do theirs.
It would be helpful to the project and playtime if those picked first could keep in constant watch on this thread and report for military photography duty to confirm their participations.. if they can't post at least it then gives the backup a decent shot of putting something good up! :D

So far this project has been a success and the story is great. Great job dudes. :)

Hey Guys.
I'm a tad behind on commenting on peoples contributions to this project, I was away for 2 weeks in July and I've had some issues @ home to sort out.. mainly my mum having her hand crushed in an engineering accident at work. :(
So i've had to pitch in and help out alot at home..
meaning my online activity hasn't been as much as I'd of liked.

I'll be skimming back through peoples contributions and posting comments again soon. Hopefully tomorrow.
Everyone so far has done a good job on keeping this community project and story going as far as I can tell and that can only be good for the storyline :cool:

You should definitely give it a shot, Tone. You can read the entirety of the story in post # 85 of this thread. As of right now, we haven't had anyone post a chapter in a while, so I figure you can just post a continuation of it and hopefully it'll get the project rolling again.
