Welcome to The Comic Box. This is a discussion thread for the GI Joe comics. We start at Marvel’s #1 and move thru the series every Wednesday. It’s a chance to give your thoughts, opinions and remarks about the comic in question.

#27. Snake-Eyes: The Origin Part II

~Short Summary~
Storm Shadow reveals that he did not kill his uncle, the Hard Master, but believes the job was done by someone in Cobra, which he has infiltrated to find the real killer.

~Notes of Interest~
Firefly makes a Malayan Tiger Gate trap (a branch with sharpened spikes tied to a tree. The branch is pulled back so that it will drive the spikes into whoever springs the trap). This might point to Firefly having received military or Special Forces training. Even before Snake-Eyes' disfiguring injury we are never able to see what he looks like, thus maintaining his aura of mystery. Scarlett reveals her feelings for Snake-Eyes. The Everglades chase seems to be missing some panels. On page 11, we are left with the Joes and Cobras facing each other down in a Mexican face-off. Next mention is the very last panel of the comic with Cobra Commander saying that the Joes have disappeared again. There is no intermediate progression of the story. One panel they are there and the next, they have disappeared.

Another good issue. For me,the real highlights of #27 are the formation of the Joe Team( "Is he just going to leave that poor animal to fend for itself?"-'Hawk,that "Poor Animal" is a wolf.He don't need no walkies, and he thinks Alpo's for sissies!' ),the helicopter crash that causes Snake's disfigurement, and the 'reconcilliation' between Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow when Snake's prevents Stormy getting smeared on the elevated train.

I also enjoyed Snake-Eyes 'taking a fall' to help out Scarlett in front of the guys.To me,the most appealing facet of Snake-Eyes' personality is that confident, giving nature, shown to us by his willingly losing contests in public so that people he cares about won't lose 'face'.

When you think about it being so good at combat that you don't even CARE if you 'win' a silly contest makes Snakes a pretty scary individual indeed! :D

Well said!

The 26-27 storyline was one of my favorites. It gave us glimpses into his past, while still keeping secrets. It piqued the curiosity even more, like only Hama could do!
