What is causing this..I have seen some fantastic shots recently.. and some great work by my pal dave.. using layering..

Anyone give me a guide or a how to?

I think Rich means a method I use on some of my pictures while using macro mode. I sometimes position a gun or figure or something further out from the subject of the picture and in front of the camera. For example:

http://www.joedios.com/dioramas/showimage.php?i=980&catid=member&imageuser=146

It's a method I use to get closer to the subject. I guess its got a lot to do with depth of field too, but I feel I get good results with my camera. Notice how the blur at the things in front of the subject of the pictures are blurry and gradually the blur gets clearer until the subject of the photo is in perfect focus...

I guess layering is a good word for it!

Hope this clears things up for people!

For photoshop layering ask Craig! ;) I'm not even a novice with photoshop yet! Hehehe

Actually no.. I was referring to the photoshop thing.. I am using a program called serif photoplus 4.0 or 5.0 which is similar.. the problem is when I select a photo and select a secondary layer the program freezes..
to put this into context dave done a pic once that he shown me where 3 skystrikers were passing a canyon or waterfall.. its stuff like that I wanted to have a go at.. but can't because of this software problem..
Also even if I could get both layers on the same screen I'm unsure of what I should be changing.. the program has a built in help menu.. but I was wondering if I should be looking out for anything in particular.. in the long run most of my pictures will be au naturale.. I guess I prefer it that way and less tampering the better.. but i'd like to at least have the option..

Google is your friend; I kind of doubt you'll find a lot of help for a photoshop clone without looking a little harder.

I would look in the help guide, but from what I can tell it sounds more like a software problem. You might want to see if there's a update availible for the program.

What you want to do is this.

Final picture
<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p278/Blowtorch_album/5CloneTroopersa.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Layer 1
<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p278/Blowtorch_album/DSCF3364.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Layer 2
<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p278/Blowtorch_album/DSCF3363.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Layer 3
<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p278/Blowtorch_album/DSCF3362.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Layer 4
<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p278/Blowtorch_album/DSCF3361.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Layer 5
<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p278/Blowtorch_album/DSCF3360.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Then of course the blaster fire are all on different layers
What I did for the Clone Troopers in pics 2-5 was erase all the background stuff then place them in pic 1. Then I resize and fix anything else I didn't like. Like I said it sounds like a software problem. I'm not sure because I'm not sitting there watching what's happening. Look for updates that might help. I'm not familar with the program but it's been my experience that it's more than likely something that simple.
Hope this helps.
