Weekend Warriors: Best Shot of the Weekend

Putting up a separate thread so everyone would know what's going down.

So Troopsofdoom sent me the idea for a weekly contest for Weekend Warriors. As of Monday, vote for your favorite shot from over the weekend in this thread. To vote, simply post a link to your favorite shot. Voting begins Monday and winners will be announced the following day, Tuesday.

The Rules:

1. Title your photos "Weekend Warriors: [insert current theme]"
2. Voting begins on Monday, you can vote regardless of if you did or didn't post a pic. Although you may not vote for yourself.
3. Votes will be counted by links posted in this thread.
4. Votes will be counted on Tuesday.

The few shots I saw were really good. I'll vote for Da Talent's (http://www.joedios.com/dioramas/showimage.php?i=31782&c=7) based on the custom figures and rivalry between Trooper/Viper ranks. I had the same idea as Scarrviper, but he did a much better job than I would've (I like the tight frame on the fight).

The topics are tough, but I'll start brainstorming for the future weekends.

Man, it's a tough call this time with so many creative entries. Nevermind that I'm a BAT fanatic, I'm voting for the BATman's shot (http://www.joedios.com/dioramas/showimage.php?i=31953&catid=member&imageuser=1190) of the busted B.A.T. crawling through the snow. The customized figure is really cool, but it's the concept that blows me away: stranded, but by your own team. Evokes a similar feeling as his shot "Forgotten (http://www.joedios.com/dioramas/showimage.php?i=24187&catid=member&imageuser=1190) ", which he also snuck a BAT into.

A very close second for me was Scarrviper's shot (http://www.joedios.com/dioramas/showimage.php?i=32001&c=12) of the disciplined Headhunter. Again, it's an out-of-the-norm approach to the theme - nice creativity (though brutal!).

Maybe after the upcoming themes are done, the winners get to choose a theme for the upcoming weeks and keep it going like that? One theme for each win.

Congrats, Scarrviper ! To be fair, I very much liked your picture too, especially because of all the cool accessories thrown about. And also because the scene is done in one shot, where everything has to be perfect at once; set, position, lighting... contrasting with my picture that was a large part Gimp-magic (the BAT never actually touched any snow while I was making the picture...).

Yeah, some advance notice is good. It could start in January if people like the idea. There's three winners already, if they picked their themes now that would be a good buffer.

Hm, personally I don't know about weekly prizes. I guess by my logic taking the best photo out of all the others is the prize. Though if you guys want a weekly prize what I say doesn't matter.

I really like the idea of some sort of yearly prize really well.

My vote goes to ToD, too. His shot captured exactly what I thought the feel of the theme was. Like when you're a kid and you pull out every figure you've got in a massive "who's the victor" battle. Why didn't I take a shot like that? Probably because there'd be 5 Timber wolves, 2 Salacious Crumbs, some droids and a HAVOC (http://www.flickr.com/photos/43512778@N07/4455079881/) .

I really liked Sic Deth's, too; not just because of the BATs, but how Roadblock is using his gun as a club.

I think I'm going with troopsofdoom also. It's perhaps not the most original angle or scenery, but in terms of figures, action and general atmosphere, it's definitely the one that comes closest to how I view this week's theme.

Runner-ups would be SIC DETH and Agent Viper with their brawling scenes. And frankly, I think Lava Boss' pîcture had something going for it as well. The fight in that one is a bit one-sided, and it could have used some muzzle flash effects, but otherwise, it's a very dynamic photograph.

My vote goes to Troops of Doom just for really running with the theme and for the use of Dodger. Always cool to see folks think outside the box w/ their figure choices.

I agree with BATman, Troops of Doom is the best for what the theme was. I liked SIC DEATH's alot better but it wasnt to the scale the big battle should have been.

My vote goes to Prince Adam. Scarrviper and RTG both took some excellent shots, I especially liked the moody lighting in Scarrviper's 2002 Alley Viper shot, and both of Roland's shots were very good and perfect for the theme. However PA's was just really artistic so it gets the vote.

All the shot's posted were very good though, you guys beat my measly shots for sure. :)

It's a tie for me:

GI Tom's BATs vs Joes in Delta Accelerator suits - I like the sense of movement and apparent chaos as these troops clash. I'm rooting for the BATs! ;)

Prince Adam's Night Vipers (take 2) - I like the composition and depth, along with use of the G36 rifle. It's about time v1 gets a weapons upgrade. If only the lighting was a bit darker...Anyway, these troops look sinister as they march across the landscape.

Scarviper's Red Alley Vipers - Nice lighting and depth. The figures' red color is highlighted and works in the AV's favor. I myself have several of the blue-and-gray version, but this photo makes me want to hunt for the red ones!

Yep, I'm going with Prince Adam's Night Viper shot. Version 2, I think; with more guys. The color contrast is nice, almost artistic. Doesn't come off like a shot of a bunch of toys on the floor.

I'm also voting for Prince Adam's Night Vipers. However, I prefer "take 1" over "take 2". (I'm not sure whether we're voting for single pictures or for groups of pictures by one photographer. Anyway.)

Sure, there's not a whole lot of troopers in that picture, but the viewpoint is great (better than in take 2, that's why I prefer take 1), the lighting is good (a real evening vibe) and all the surroundings look in scale (that dried grass is perfect !).

I can't really make up my mind this weekend between Scarrviper and Cyko. Scarrviper's shot looked so good I could imagine it on actual toy packaging, like on the POC cards. Likewise, I'm a sucker for Stalker and snow so Cyko's shot was also real nice.

Honestly, the topic was screaming for someone to do a shot of Snake Eyes on a rampant killing spree through a Cobra base. You guys are totally free to do whatever you want, I'm not the dictator of Joedios. Though personally I'm displeased with how the voting goes for a few reasons.

First, I was really disappointed with the turn out on the remake theme. I think only three or four people participated and that kind of hurts. I didn't bother rounding them up because of that, and the fact that I'm rather pissed with this entire website as of late.

Why did no one do any remakes? Do you guys not appreciate anyone's work? I was expecting a ton of remakes of Outrider's stuff, but not a single shot besides my own. Maybe the themes I chose are no good, but the lack of remakes coupled with the fact that a lot of members don't like to comment anymore makes me feel as though some of you are really self consumed.

Also, there's only been three to five shots for the past two weekends, Rescue Missions and Mortal Enemies. Is that because we quit the voting? If that's the case then there's a really bad attitude passing around here, of people who just want to compete opposed to those who are inspired by the great work of our fellow photographers.

And my last problem, more people chose to compete rather than vote! I guess some of you were afraid that voting for someone else would hurt your chances of winning nothing? Really, going through many of the weekends with high turnouts, there was usually half or less who voted than different people who posted shots. This might have been more worth it for everyone involved if more folks voted.

Personally, I'm done with voting. Weekend Warriors should just be a theme for every weekend instead of a competition, like it used to be. I want to say as well that I'm not trying to be a jerk, but as long as some of you keep the competitive attitude, before long this place won't be fun for anyone, and I don't think I'm alone in that sentiment. This isn't at anyone in particular, I just want more people to see that it's really more fun if everything's not some kind of competition.

And I hope that you Reverend Blood, or TOD aren't offended by what I've said since I didn't mean it at you two. But I've found that keeping to myself and never saying what I think doesn't help much.

The themes have been great! I've been really challenged to come up with shots. I was short of time for a "Remake" (...a set...), and I totally expected a billion shots of Storm Shadow versus Snake Eyes for the "Mortal Enemies" theme, so I gave up. Thought of a scene this morning, though, so maybe I'll go ahead and take the shot. Shoot, I even had an idea for the "Rescue" weekend, then poof, it was the following week already! I just need to plan better.
